Caleb
you can't fix what you broke. you can't fix what you broke. you can't fix what you broke.
"why the hell is he sitting with them?" Darius snarks, smoke leaving his nostrils.
He glares at me.
"How am I supposed to know?"
I meant for it to sound accusatory, but I just sound broken. My ears pop as a silencing bubble forms over the three of us.
"What's wrong?" Max asks.
I shake my head, trying to hold back tears. Darius' harsh look fades.
"Caleb, you can trust us," Max says.
"We broke up," I whisper.
"You and Tory? I thought you weren't-"
I shake my head.
"Not Tory? Then who?" Darius asks.
I look up at the lights, trying to hold the tears back. Max rubs my arm, trying to lessen my sadness, but nothing can. I take a shaky breath. The truth spills out with one word.
"Seth," I whisper.
There it is, the world-shattering truth.
"Seth?" Max prompts.
I nod. Darius jumps up.
"Darius, don't," I plead.
"He hurt you. He turned his back on us, on you, he hurt you," he snarls.
"Don't please. I'll just make things worse," I plead.
He sits back down. I can't hold back the tears anymore. I have to get out of here. Max shifts so I'm hidden from the view of others. Darius sits on my other side, his bulk further hiding me.
"You're good, we've got you. Let it out," Darius says.
I slink down and sob. Max rubs my back, not taking away my sadness and pain, just trying to comfort me. Darius helps by rubbing my shoulders. I relax into their touch. I finally compose myself.
Seth: what's wrong? what happened? Darius stood up then you disappeared.
Max takes my Atlas before I can reply.
Caleb: like you don't know asshole - Max
Seth: is he alright?
Caleb: no he isn't, asshole. you broke him- Max
Seth: I'm sorry
Caleb: if you were really sorry, you'd be over here making things right- Max
Darius snatches my Atlas from Max.
Caleb: don't come over right now, not here. you've done enough. - Darius
I look over the couch, seeing Seth hovering between the Vegas and us. He sits back down.
Seth: now who's the asshole? Seth is hurting too you idiots. - Darcy
Despite Darcy's attempts to stop him, Seth runs from the orb without warning. I catch a glimpse of his face, at the tears there.
"Shit, I should- I don't know, follow him or something," I say.
"Do you want to?" Max asks.
"I don't know. But he's hurting and-" I say.
"I don't think you should unless you're sure. It could make things worse," Max says.
I sigh. We all head our separate ways after breakfast. I head back to Terra house, needing to be alone. I sit on my bed, staring at the thread of messages with Seth. I read the older message, filled with love and happiness. Damn, I miss that. I end up staying in my room all day. Darius and Max both message me, pleading with me to join them. I ignore both of them. Then a message comes through that I can't ignore.
