Chapter 22: Panic at the DollHouse

Jaune join Ruby, who is at the punch bowl alone.

Jaune: I see you're hiding at the punch bowl too.

Ruby: YeP.

Jaune:*sigh* To socially awkward.

Ruby giggles and clink theirs glasses.

Jaune: By the way, how was Y/N ? Did you manage to make him dance ?

Ruby: Almost, but he manage to runaway. I don't even know where he is right now.

Ruby: Sorry things didn't work out with Weiss.

Jaune: Meh, it's fine. Neptune's pretty cool. I get why she went with him.

Ruby: What do you mean ?

Jaune: Well, not everyone can pull off the blue hair.

Jaune drink his punch casually.

Ruby: No, I mean, Weiis came to the dance alone.

Jaune chokes on his drink suprised at hearing that.

Jaune:*cough* What ?

Weiss could be seen trying to get up a flower, but unable to do so, making her visibly upset. Jaune look at that with a frown, while he didn't had any interest in Weiss anymore, she is still a friend of his.

Ruby: Yeah, she said that she had too much to focus on to worry about boys.

Jaune:... Hold my punch.

Ruby grab it and drink it. As Jaune make his way to through the room he stop his angry walking when he sees Pyrrha walking to the stairs all gloomy. He watch it and seems to change his objective as he choose to follow his spartan teammate.

Jaune walk to Pyrrha, who is alone on the balcony, looking at nothing in particular.

Jaune: Hey, Pyrrha.

She turns to face him.

Pyrrha: Hello, Jaune.

Jaune could tell that something was wrong with her tone of voice.

Jaune: You okay ? I haven't seen you tonight.

She turns back to the balcony.

Pyrrha: Arrived late, I'm afraid.

Jaune: Well, you look beautiful in this dress. It suits you well.

Pyrrha: *blush* Thank you.

Jaune: Your, uh, date isn't going to beat me up for saying that, is he ?

Pyrrha: I think you're safe for tonight.

Jaune: So, where is the guy ?

Pyrrha turn back to Jaune.

Pyrrha: ...There's no guy.

Jaune: W-What ?

Pyrrha: Nobody asked me.

Jaune: But that's... You're Pyrrha Nikos ! H-How could nobody ask you ?

Pyrrha: I've been blessed with incredible talents and opportunities. I'm constantly surrounded by love and praise, but when you're placed on a pedestal like that for so long. you become separated from people that put you there in the first place. Everyone assumes I'm too good for them. That I'm on a level they simply can't attain. It's become impossible to form any sort of meaningful relationship with people. That's what I like about you. When we met, you didn't even know my name. You treated me just like anyone else. And thanks to you, I've made friendships that will last a lifetime. I guess, you're the kind of guy I wish I was here with. Someone who just saw me for me. Even Y/N and Chad noticed that you were my type, despite the fact that Y/N isn't the most... tacteful person I know.
