Rekrap sat alone in his bed. His mattress and blanket was worn and tattered. Corners of his bedroom where covered in dirt and grime.
Rekrap fiddled with a small rusty yo-yo, the only toy he's ever had. They locked him in his bedroom again... how long will it be this time? An hour? 12 hours? A day or two? Only time will tell. Would he be fed? Or left to rot and waste away in this room he called a "home"?
Rekrap was young, he didn't understand much about the world, or the things he felt. But he understood one thing. He felt trapped. Like a mouse stuck in a never ending maze, he was trapped. He was too young to understand, that what these people that where supposed to take care of and support him, people he had considered "parents" wasn't normal. He thought ever kid lived like this. Covered in dirt and grime, and punished for every little wrong thing.
Then, there was a loud banging on the door, roaring as loud as an awaiting thunder. His supposed "father" barged into the room. Clearly drunk. He was yelling, screaming his lungs out. Calling Rek names. Things no child should hear. He stomped towards Rek. Picking him up by his neck, strangling the boy with all his might. He hears his "mothers" cries. But not ones of pain and fear for Rek. Ones of worry for herself. She couldn't give a shit about Rek. She never wanted him. The man lifted Rek higher into the air, and then-

Rekrap awoke in a cold sweat, his face was drenched in his own tears and sweat. His eyes dart around his bedroom, it was just a nightmare... one he hasn't had since he was at the orphanage. He thought that since he was with Branzy his nightmares would go away, because he had a home now. A real one.
But he couldn't help but feel unnerved every time that nightmare happened. He buried his face in his small hands, trying to muffle his sobs. Jumping at every little sound. He knew he was safe. He knew that man wouldn't break down the door to come beat him. He knew Branzy wasn't like that. Branzy cared. Branzy wouldn't allow for anything bad to happen to him, or the other boys. Speaking of Branzy.
After 10 minutes of crying. Rekrap got up and walked over to Branzy's bedroom. There was no sound in house besides the soft snores of the others.
Rek entered Branzy's bedroom, walking over to his bed. Rek just stands there, staring at Branzy, he wanted to wake him up, he wanted the comfort. But he was scared Branzy would get mad at him. He softly tapped Branzy every few minutes until he woke up, being startled.
"H-huh-...? AH-... oh. Hi Rek... w-whats up..?" Branzy rubbed his eyes and sat up.
"I-... i had a nightmare-..." Rekrap let out a sniffle.
Branzy sighed and picked him up, rubbing his back.
"Shh.. it's okay... it was only a dream."
Only a dream... rek knew it wasn't. But he couldn't tell Branzy that.
Branzy started carrying Rekrap back to his bedroom. Sitting on the bed once they where in there.
"You're okay, sweetheart... its just a nightmare..." Branzy continued to rub Reks back, but not before laying him back in bed, tucking him in nice and tightly. Branzy started humming a sweet lullaby, while whispering sweet encouraging words.
Rekrap felt his eyes slowly get heavier over time, it was getting harder to stay up. He was scared that going back to sleep would send him back into the nightmare, but Branzy's words made him feel better. It was like Branzy had been doing this for years, even though he hasn't. It's only been a few months after all. Rekrap closed his eyes, drifting off into a deep slumber. The last thing he heard before falling fast asleep was. "Goodnight Rek... i await your sweet dreams."
