After their impromptu dance session, all the parents returned home, promising to see their kids when spring break comes round. "Do you have to go?" Red asks her mother, after saving her in the past, she suddenly wants to spend as much time as possible with her mother. Her new, nicer, sweeter mother. "Alas, i must, my darling. But i will see you soon, i promise. Be good, be kind. I love you." Bridget hugs her daughter and gives her a kiss on the cheek before entering her car. "I'll see you soon my darling!" She waves as she drives off. Red couldn't help but smile and wave goodbye as she watched her mother drive away. "We did it." She whispered to herself. She shakes her head. "I still can't believe it." She looks around for Chloe and sees her saying goodbye to her mom as well.
"Give dad and Chad a hug for me." Chloe hugs her mom tight. After nearly losing her, she almost doesn't want to let go. "I will, sweetie. Be a good girl. Have fun, join fencing, i know how much you and your father love that. I'll talk to you soon. I love you." She gives her mom one last hug. "Oh, i think someone is waiting for you." Cinderella says to her as she sees Red watching them from afar. Chloe lets go confused before she turns around and sees Red smiling at her. She smiles back and waves. "I better get going. Gotta unpack and settle in and everything." She nods. She gives her mom one last hug before she watches her mom get in her carriage and drive away. She takes a deep breath and turns around to see Red smiling at her. She must admit, something's changed between them. Ever since she saved her from the monster in the black lagoon, something between them has shifted. She tries to gather herself as Red walks up to her. "Hey! We did it!" She gives her a high five. "We did! I can't wait for the school year." Chloe smiles. "Well, first things first princess, we gotta get our room assignments and schedules."
They link arms and walk toward the table with Uma and Fairy Godmother. They're handing out room keys, class schedules and textbooks to all new students. "Hey girls! Welcome to Auradon! Here are your schedules, someone will bring your bags up to your room, and here are your textbooks for class. Today is just about moving in and getting settled, tomorrow will be the first day of school. So go to bed early, the curfew is at 11. And I'm sure we all know, i have a thing about curfews." She smiles. They both laugh awkwardly as they quickly gather their things and head to their room. "Oh sweet, we're rooming together!" Chloe smiles. Red laughs. "Of course we are." "What? What's wrong?" Chloe asks her. "Nothing princess, I'm glad we're rooming together, it'll be just like at Merlin Academy." They finally reach their dorm room as Red unlocks the door. Their room is spacious and plain. Two beds, two closets, one window and two desks. "Alright, time to decorate." Red pulls out a can of spray paint out of her bag.
"Whoa, whoa, what are you doing?" Chloe stops her. "It's called decorating." Red shrugs. "No, that's called vandalism." Chloe counters. "Oh come on, princess. It's our room, what are they gonna do? Kick us out?" Red shakes the can. "I'm pretty sure destruction of school property calls for expulsion, yeah." Chloe nods. Red sighs and puts it away. "Alright fine." She sits on the bed and looks around the room. "Hey, you ok?" Chloe asks as she sits next to her. Red nods and turns to her. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm glad to be back, i just wonder how much we've changed and in what ways. " Red sighs. "What do you mean?" Chloe looks at her confused. "Well, it was really weird seeing Fairy Godmother not good at magic, our moms, Principal Uma's aunt. And some things just don't add up." Red shakes her head. "Like what?" Chloe scoots closer. The movement puts Red's mind in a state as their knees touch. "Uh....i don't know. Like, um....oh your mom!" Red tries to focus.
"What about my mom?" Chloe asks. "Well, you said that she and your dad fell in love at Castle coming right? If you broke the vase and got her grounded-" "Not my finest moment...." "How did she go to the dance?" Red asks. Chloe thinks for a second. "Oh! Fairy Godmother!" Red shakes her head. "But we saw it ourselves, she wasn't any good at magic, she was horrible. So how did she pull that off?" Chloe shrugs. "I don't know, but I'm just glad to be home and all of this is finally over." She lays down and stares at the ceiling. "I'm glad my mom's ok." Red sighs. "Yeah, me too. I'm so sorry about sentencing her to death." Red looks down in shame. "Hey," she lightly grabs Red's chin and lifts her face, "you helped save her. All is forgiven, i promise. And i know it was just your mom forcing you to do it." Red stares at her and smiles. "Thanks." Chloe smiles back before letting go of her chin and coughing. "Sorry. I know how you get about people touching you." Red shakes her head. "People, yeah. You, no. I feel like we've become really good friends by now." Chloe smiles and nods. "Me too."
They finish unpacking and head to supper. After they come back, they get ready for bed. It wasn't until around 3AM when Red woke up to strange noises. "No, no. Please don't!" She quickly turns to see Chloe having a nightmare. "Chloe? Princess?" She rushes to her and gently shakes her. "Hey, wake up Chloe. It's just a dream." Chloe wakes up with a cold sweat. She's breathing heavily and looks around. "You're ok, it was just a nightmare." Red rubs her arm. She quickly checks the clock on the bedside table. 3:23AM "Crap, I'm sorry Red. I didn't mean to wake you." Red shakes her head. "It's ok. You were having a nightmare. No one likes that. I'm just glad i could wake you up. Do you wanna talk about it?" She asks. Flashes of her mom and dad run through her head. Her glass shoes, shattered. Her dad on his knees in tears. Red's mother laughing. "It was about your mom again, wasn't it?" Red asks as she brushes a hair out of her face. Chloe sighs and nods. "But it had nothing to do with you, i swear. I know you're a good person. You're nothing like your mother. Hell, your mother's not even like herself anymore. Not since we changed the past but I don't know, i just can't forget about what i saw." Chloe quickly wipes her tears. "Of course not Princess, it's gonna take some time. And i promise I'll be here for you every step of the way." Red touches her knee. Chloe nods and holds her hand. "Thanks." Red nods. "We should probably try to get some sleep before we're late to class on the first day of school."
Red goes to stand before Chloe quickly grabs her hand. "Wait...." "Yes, princess?" Red smiles. "Um, nevermind. It's ok." Chloe shakes her head and lets go. "Clearly it's something. What's up? You can talk to me." Red smiles at her. "Um, would you stay with me? Like hold me? Please?" She shakes her leg nervously. Red nods. "Yeah, of course." Chloe looks at her shocked. "Really?" "Don't get used to it. But just for tonight. I think after everything we've been through, we probably both need it right now. Scoot over." She tells her. Chloe scoots over in her bed to make room for her. "Cute pj's." Red chuckles as she glances at Chloe's light blue pajama set with little glass slippers and swords on them. "I could say the same to you." Red looks down at her red pajamas with little pink hearts on them. "Shut up, i didn't choose to wear this. My mom must have had this made for me after we changed the past. Cause these are definitely not my original pj's." They both lay down and turn towards each other.
"Which is what, exactly?" Chloe asks her. "Um, I don't know. I can't remember. Probably a side effect from changing the past or something." Red brushes it off. "We should get some sleep." She turns facing away from her. "Yeah, you're right. Goodnight." "Night." Red tries to sleep, she really does. But her mind just fills with questions and those questions just lead to more questions. If they changed the past and her mother isn't the tyrant that she was. Does that mean that Red isn't the daughter that she was? Growing up with a controlling mother made her rebellious. But if her mother now lets her grow up to be whoever she wants, does she still want this? Does she still want to be the rebellious teen that she is? If so, what is she even rebelling from? Her mother was no longer controlling which gives her no reason to rebel. If she has no reason, she's free to be herself. But who is she? Without doing the things that she did out of spite for her mother, what did she do? How did she grow up? Would she still be the same? Would Chloe still like her? She glances behind her at the girl who managed to sneak her way into her life, into her heart. Would she still like Chloe?
Meanwhile, Chloe's thoughts were more focused on the present. Red had acting strange towards her. Not entirely but there were moments. Did she do something? Is she mad at her? No, she would have said something by now. That girl definitely speaks her mind. Then what is it? Maybe it's exhaustion from being in the past for the last couple of days. It's not easy trying to change the future. Yeah, maybe that's it. They just needed to settle down, get into a routine of things and everything will be back to normal, right?
