Sanemi had noticed that recently, Giyuu hadn't been eating much and whenever he did, he would throw it up soon after.

Whenever they took baths together, he would notice that Giyuu had lost some weight. He also noticed that Giyuu had started to go on less missions due to him being tired.

Sanemi had decided that enough was enough and he dragged Giyuu to Shinobu. He sadly could never had imagined what she would say..

"You have stage C, locally advanced liver cancer." Shinobu said, her usual smile gone. Sanemi's eyes widened and he looked over to Giyuu to see the same expression.

"But how?!" Sanemi said, whipping his head back to Shinobu. "I have no idea.." She said, looking down.

"Is there anyway to cure it?!" Sanemi said, sounding more desperate then he had intended. "Due to the stage and our current medicine, no."

Sanemi's heart wrenched and he looked back over to Giyuu to see him crying. "How much longer do I have..?" Giyuu said in a shaky voice.

"A year or less." Giyuu nodded slowly, reaching a trembling hand over to Sanemi's. Sanemi grabbed onto Giyuu's hand tightly.

"I should tell Master.." "I agree, but I would recommend retiring from the demon slayer corp and staying here, at the butterfly mansion." Shinobu said.

Giyuu nodded again. Sanemi scooted so he was facing Giyuu. "I'm going to stay right by your side, okay? No matter what."

A few days later, Giyuu went to meet with Master.

"Hello, Giyuu. It's nice to talk to you again." Master said. "Yes it is. Although the subject isn't.."

"Ah, yes." Master nodded. "I'm retiring from the demon slayer corp.." Giyuu said.

Master stopped smiling. "May I ask why?" He said. "I... I have cancer, and only a year left to live." Master's eyes widened, even if he couldn't see.

"I see... I'm very sorry, Giyuu.." Master said, bowing his head. "Thank you, I'm planning to tell the other Hashira after this."

"Is there anything I can do to make this year more comfortable for you?" Master asked. "I... I want to spend time with Sanemi.."

Master nodded. "Very well."

Later with the Hashira.

Master had called the meeting but wasn't actually going to participate.

Giyuu sat in front and facing everyone, Sanemi next to him. "So, gonna tell us why you made Master call us?" Obanai said, looking Giyuu up and down.

"I'm retiring from the demon slayer corp." "Ehh! Why! You're such a great Hashira!" Mitsuri said in disbelief.

"I-" Giyuu tried to speak but Obani cut him off. "What, do you think you're too good to be with us or something?" Obanai scoffed.

"Shut up and let him speak, tree guy." Muichiro said from the back. "Thank you, Muichiro.." Giyuu said before taking a deep breath.

"I was diagnosed with liver cancer. I have a year left at best." The room went silent. Everyone was shocked
(except for Shinobu and Sanemi)

"What!? Tomioka-san that's horrible!" Mitsuri squeaked. Obanai was just sitting there in shock.

"I shall pray for you..." Gyomei said, beginning to cry. "You're.. going to die?" Muichiro said, tilting his head in disbelief.
