"Surya, stop working now

"Surya, stop working now. We're almost home." Rajveer said with irritation,

I glanced at him nonchalantly, still absorbed in my tasks. "Even when we get home, Mom won't let me stop working. That's why I'm finishing up now. You should just rest."

As I closed the iPad and adjusted myself, I noticed the palace gates opening. The palace, with its timeless beauty, stood out in all of Jaipur. Our family had a prominent reputation in the state, and our decisions were highly respected.

The car came to a halt in front of the palace, and the gatekeeper opened the car door for me. Stepping out and entering the palace, I felt a wave of nostalgia. This place held so many cherished memories from my childhood.

Inside, I found everyone gathered in the living room, chatting among themselves. My heart warmed at the sight.

"Surya Bhai!" Sanvi called out cheerfully, drawing everyone's attention to me. Rajveer and I touched the feet of the elders to seek their blessings.

"Bhai aap kuch jda jldi nhi aa gye?" Parth teased sarcastically.
[Bhai, didn't you come back too soon?]

"Aur tu jda bolne ni lga h?" I retorted with a raised eyebrow. Parth chuckled nervously.
[And you've become quite the chatterbox]

I turned to Sanvi and asked, "Maa kha h"
[Where's Mom?]

"In the kitchen, and she's very upset with you." she whispered, leaning in as if sharing a top-secret piece of information.

I laughed softly at her dramatic delivery, ruffling her hair before heading towards the kitchen.

"Maa..." I called out as I entered the kitchen, but as usual, she pretended to ignore me.

"Chachi... I missed you," I said, touching her feet. Chachi was like a mother to me, always showing affection to every child.

"Maa... I'm sorry, dekho ab mai aa gya n" I said, approaching Maa and wrapping her in a hug.
[Look, I'm here now].

"Sameera, tell him I don't want to talk to anyone," Maa instructed Chachi, pulling away from my embrace.

"Par mujhe to meri pyari maa se btt krni h" I insisted, presenting her with a bouquet of orchids, her favorite flowers.
[But I want to talk to my dear mother]

As I watched her face, I saw a smile breaking through despite her attempt to hide it. "No, I don't want it; this is your usual excuse," she said with a hint of frustration.

"I'm sorry, Mom. It won't happen again," I promised, holding my ears in a gesture of apology.

"Bhabhi me to bolti hu shadi krwa do iski shyd ghr m rhne k aur jldi aane k bhana mil jyega, tb jldi aayega humara Surya" My aunt, always quick to tease, chimed in with a playful tone.
[Why don't you just get him married? That way, he'll have an excuse to stay at home more often and come around sooner. Then our Surya will visit us more often]

She knew exactly how much I disliked discussing marriage, yet she brought it up just to tease me.

"Sameera kya chahti ho ki jaise me iski ek jhalak k liye tarasti hu waise ek bechari ladki bhi tarse" Mom asked, taking the flowers from my hands and handing them to the servant to be placed in a vase.
[Sameera, what do you want that just as I long for a glimpse of him, a poor girl should also long for it?]

"You never know, bhabhi," my aunt teased.
"aapka beta biwi k aashiq bn jaye aur time se aana bhi shuru krde, aur waise bhi biwi k pyar m to har koi pgl hota h, ab Jeth ji ko dekh lijiye wo bhi to aapki sunte h phir ye veer kya chij h ye bhi joru k Ghulam bnenge"
[Your son might become so smitten with his wife that he starts coming home on time. After all, everyone goes a little crazy in love. Just look at Jeth ji, he listens to you, and who knows what even this Surya might become a slave to his wife's charms.]

Her relentless teasing never missed a beat, and she loved every opportunity to provoke a reaction.

"Maa, Chachi, enough already. I'm sorry," I said, giving them both a hug. They returned the embrace warmly.

"This time I am forgiving, next time don't talk to me." Maa warned, trying to look stern. I knew, though, that her anger was just an act; deep down, she could never stay mad at me. I simply smiled and nodded in agreement, fully aware of her soft spot for me.

"Go and freshen up quickly; I've made your favorite meal," Mom said, giving me a peck on the cheek.

"Okay, Mom," I replied, returning the kiss to both her and Chachi's cheeks before heading out.

As I descended the stairs, the sound of lively chatter grew louder. The dining hall was its usual cacophony of conversation and chaos. Everyone was engaged in their own conversations; Dad and Chachu were deep in business discussions, while my brother and sister were absorbed in their own antics.

I made my way to the dining table and took my place, taking in the sight of the spread before me. The table was laden with my favorite dishes, all prepared with love by Maa.

"Maa, was it really necessary to make all this?" I asked, shaking my head in bemusement.

"You've come, beta, so that's why I've made so much. This doesn't happen every day, it's not like she cooks this much every day," Dad said, his tone playful as he teased Maa.

"Yeah, and who cooks for you every day?" Maa replied, rolling her eyes with a smile.

Their playful bickering started, something I always enjoyed. Their little arguments were endearing and added a special warmth to our family dinners.

"Are dhara ji daily humari dharmapatni bnati thi, par aaj humare bete ki maa ne bnaya h" Papa added, knowing just how to make Maa smile. Her face softened into a warm smile in response.
[Oh, Dhara ji used to cook for us daily, but today my son's mother has prepared this feast]

While I'm not particularly fond of the idea of marriage, if I were ever to consider it, I would want it to be as loving and supportive as their relationship.

Dinner concluded with a lot of laughter and engaging conversation. Despite my reputation as a cold and calculating business tycoon, moments like these at home brought me a sense of peace. Here, I could shed my exterior and simply be myself, enjoying the warmth and closeness of my family.

After a joyful dinner with my loved ones, I headed to bed early. Tomorrow promised an early start with a visit to the temple for a puja. Exhaustion quickly took over, and I fell into a deep sleep, comforted by the familiar embrace of home.
