AS THE CRISP autumn wind whispered through the trees, vibrant leaves fell to the ground, covering the earth in shades of orange, red, and gold. the air was filled with the scent of pumpkin spice and the sound of rustling leaves, signaling that fall had fully settled in. it was a season of cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and the anticipation of the coming winter.
i was lazing on the couch, a leaf-patterned blanket around my shoulders, when jack texted me.
jacky bear 🧸
hey cutie

hi cuteness

i grab my phone, purse, keys, and check myself in the mirror to make sure i look good. i'm wearing a ribbed, beige half zip sweater, light wash jeans, and platform uggs.
i walk out, closing the front door behind me, locking it, and step into jack's car.
his face lights up with a huge grin when he sees me.
"someone's excited to see me, huh?" i tease.
he smiles again, embracing me in a hug. "mhm. i am."
the whole drive to the pumpkin patch, jack held my hand, our fingers intertwined, while his left hand was on the steering wheel.
once we arrive, he opens the car door for me and we make our way to the entrance.
"mmm, it smells like cinnamon," jack remarks, putting on his grey beanie.
i breathe in the air, smiling. "it does."
he grabs my hand. "c'mon, let's go pick our pumpkins."
we walked around the patch for a while, scanning the grass for a perfect, round pumpkin until we found the largest one yet.
jack whistles in awe. "i want that one."
i laugh. "uh huh."
he looks at me, his lips curling into a smile. "i'm serious."
"okay, but how do you suppose we get that ginormous thing into the backseat of your car?" i question, both hands on my hips.
"uh, it's easy," he began. "we just lift it."
"jack, that pumpkin probably weighs a ton."
he threw his head back, groaning. "fine. we'll leave him."
i playfully roll my eyes. "you're such a goof."
"pumpkin hater..." he mumbles under his breath.
"what was that?" i asked, even though i knew exactly what he said.
"nothing," he replied, his hands in his coat pockets. "let's just keep looking."
after 20 minutes of searching, we found the two most flawless pumpkins sitting right next to each other.
"oh my god," i voiced. "tell me these weren't made for us?!"
"woah," jack exclaimed. "i think they are."
