a/n: this is told in jack's pov and there are some intentional grammar errors for the daughter's dialogue.
"WHAT'S UP, GUYS," i greet, speaking into my phone, which was propped up against the bathroom mirror. "uh, today i'm going to do my daughter's hair, or at least attempt to. um, y/n told me to film this as a tiktok, so hopefully this posts."
my daughter giggles.
"you think that's funny, princess? hm??" i ask her, grabbing two clear rubber hair ties. she laughs again, and the sweet sound is enough to make me smile from ear to ear.
"okay, do you want piggies or bunnies today?" i question, admiring her as she thinks about it. her dark, blue eyes sparkle in the light as she puffs out her cheeks, making a silly face.
"umm," she mumbles. "piggies!"
i smile. "you got it. piggies it is."
i start by lightly spraying her hair with water—y/n told me to do it; i don't know why—then, i section her hair in a straight line down the middle. i grab the brush, quite small in my hands, and brush the left side first. i hold her hair up and grab the small, elastic band, tying it into a smooth, high ponytail.
i look at my work, proud of myself, then at her. "that was easy. what do you think, baby?"
she nods. "good job, dada!"
i beam down at her, then face the camera. "alright, one down, one more to go. can't be that hard."
i do the exact same thing on the right side. i brush her hair, hold it up, and then tie the clear band around it.
"dang, that looks pretty good."
as i look in the mirror to compare the two pigtails, i frown. the left side was perfect and high up, while the right side was a little bumpy and a lot further down.
"uh, a little lopsided, but i think it looks great. right, baby?" i ask her, my right arm around her waist as she stands on the stool shaking her head. "what? you don't like it?"
"is messy, dada," she says, playing with the hairbrush. "mommy won like it."
"i'm sure mommy will like it," i tell her. then, i widen my eyes at the camera to signify that no, mommy won't like it.
"what color bows do you want?" i ask, holding a bright, red one and a light, purple one. she points to the red which makes me smile. "my favorite color."
"is your color, dada!" she explains, throwing her little arms into the air. "the debils!"
i laugh. "yup, that's our color. good job, princess."
i clip both red bows onto the pigtails and try to fix the right side, but give up almost immediately when i hear the front door open, which means y/n just got here. my daughter jumps up and down, her face lighting up with joy and excitement.
"is that mommy?" i ask her, which only makes her more excited and jumpy.
"i'm home!" y/n shouts from downstairs.
"up here, babe!" i shout back.
the sound of her footsteps grow closer and closer until she's in the doorway.
"oh my goodness, jack, her hair is so cute!" she exclaims, as she kneels down and hugs our daughter. "my baby looks so pretty."
"yeah, she does. she's pretty just like her mom."
y/n smiles. "cute."
"you really like the hair?" i ask, one hand on the counter and the other pointing to the pigtails.
