𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐒, 𝗷𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀

45. a baby's laugh

requested!

JACK AND I have been trying to make our baby, emmy, laugh for a while now. long enough that the light in the room had shifted and i gave up sitting on the couch and moved to the floor instead.

"okay," i said, crouching low. "watch this."

i crossed my eyes and stuck out my tongue. emmy stared back, serious and calm, like this was important work.

"that usually works," jack said.

"on adults," i muttered, trying again. this time i added a noise of a half honk and half hiccup.

jack snorted. "you sound like something that shouldn't exist."

emmy leaned forward slightly. i froze.

"did you see that?" i whispered.

"i saw disappointment," jack said, but he clapped anyway. once. twice. too loud. she blinked and frowned.

"too aggressive," i said.

jack sighed and picked up a stuffed animal, making it bounce dramatically. "hello," he said in his best high voice. "i am a frog."

"that's a bear," i said.

"it's a frog now."

emmy watched the bear-frog closely and her mouth twitched. me and jack stopped moving.

"don't breathe," i whispered.

she sneezed.

jack laughed first, sharp and tired. then i laughed too, falling back onto the carpet. emmy looked at us again, and laughed. it was loud and bright and sudden, like a surprise.

me and jack both went quiet.

"there it is," jack said quietly.

i nodded, smiling. "guess we were doing it for us."

emmy laughed again, but just because we were laughing too.

but my oh my it's been a while since i've posted but i'm finally on break! thank goodness it's for a month
also omg i got an ipad for christmas and i have no clue what to download on it LOL
