"jake!" soojin hurries to his front door and rings the calling bell.
"hey," jake opens the door and smiles weakly, his cheek formed a red-ish shade.
without any hesitation, soojin comes inside. "god, you're really sick."
"did you think i'd lie?" jake questions while following her to the living room.
soojin puts her bag on the couch before taking out the medicines. "let me just check your temperature first," she puts her palm on his forehead, eyes widening. "you're burning!""don't worry," he says.
"of course, i will."
-
"are you feeling better now?" soojin asks.
it is almost 7 pm meaning that soojin has to leave now. before that she checks up on jake one more time.
"not really," jake says while shrugging. there was a slight smirk as he faked it.
"what do you mean?" the girl smiles since she knows he was just lying so that he could make her stay longer.
he comes forward and back hugs her. "can't you stay over for the night?"
"i have class tomorrow," she says as he grunts. "i can drop you off tomorrow."
"no way, jake. you need to rest. you were clearly overworking yourself. you need to rest or i'll go confront your manager if he overworks you again," she is warning him, clearly.
she turns around facing him. he just looks at her. staring into her soul. "god, you're just..i can't."
"what?"
"you look so cool right now, i'm almost jealous," he chuckles as his thumb softly brushes against her cheek. "you're..."
jake can’t tear his gaze away. the way the soft light of the room frames her face, how her dark hair falls perfectly over her shoulders, and the deep, captivating look in her eyes—
"too beautiful."
her cheeks turning a pinkish shade as he tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear closing the gap between them.
“oh, darling…” his voice was softer now, almost a plea.
her eyes meets his. his gaze is intense, filled with something she can't quite place, something that made her breath hitch. for a moment, neither of them moved, the air between them thick with unspoken words.
for a moment, time seems to pause. his breath mingles with hers, and then, slowly, he leans in, his lips capturing hers in a kiss—soft at first, almost hesitant, but then deeper, more certain.
the world falls away, leaving only the warmth of his lips, the way his hand held her close, and the feeling of finally letting go.
he gently runs his thumb across her bottom lip, barely touching, but enough to feel the softness, to remind him that this isn’t a dream. soojin opens her eyes slowly, her gaze locking with his, and for a moment neither of them say anything. The quiet between them isn’t awkward—it is heavy, charged with the kind of emotion that doesn’t need words.
his heart is racing, his mind clouded with thoughts of her, of the way she fits so perfectly into his arms, as if this is where she belonged all along. he leans in again, unable to stop himself, brushing his lips against her forehead this time, a gentle touch that sent a ripple of warmth through both of them.
soojin’s hand comes up, resting lightly on his chest, her fingers curling against the fabric of his shirt. “Jake…” she whispers, her voice soft, filled with something he couldn’t quite place. She doesn't pull away, doesn't break the connection. If anything, she seems to lean into him, her body molding into his as if they are both afraid to let go.
he can still taste the sweetness of her kiss, still feel the warmth of her skin under his fingertips. His hand moves down from her cheek, sliding to the small of her back, pulling her closer until there was no space left between them.
Jake tilts her chin up gently, his eyes searching hers, full of the question neither of them has asked but both know the answer to. he doesn’t need to say anything. the way his thumb brushes her cheek, the way her fingers grip his shirt just a little tighter—it is enough.
and then, as if drawn together by an invisible force, they kiss again. this time it is different—not hesitant, but full of the silent promise that whatever this is, it is real. the kiss is deeper, more urgent, as if they are both trying to make up for all the moments they hasn’t realized they’ve been waiting for this. jake feels the world tilt, as though everything has been leading to this exact moment, this kiss that erased the space between them entirely.
when they finally broke apart, both of them breathless, Jake rests his forehead against hers once more. his voice is low, rough with emotion as he whispers, “I don’t want you to go.”
"i won't."
