THREE MONTHS LATER
Yoongi was finally promoted to second in command to Namjoon. The pack had seen all his contributions, and since being my mate his was in high status with the blood line anyway. Namjoon insisted Yoongi take the official title because that title had not been assigned since Namjoon took over as Pack Leader. There was some argument on who should be assigned in the pack, Jin or I, and no one could agree. Jin wanted me to have it, and I wanted Jin to have it.
So no one took it.
The issues with the traps that had been laid were a bit of a roller coaster. At first, they were getting better. Hoseok and his crew frequently came to training sessions so they were equipped to handle any physical confrontation they may come across with the trappers. We also had extra volunteers at the boarders, but the land was so large it was hard to have someone somewhere, at all times. It just wasn't a realistic goal. So far no altercation has occurred. It was starting to get to Namjoon as well. Whoever these hunters/trappers were they were smart. And that is more than I usually say about the human race. It had been about 2 weeks since we had found any of the bear traps laying out but then one of the boarder patrollers got caught in one.
He nearly lost his leg because of it.
This only fueled Namjoon's anger and rage, and he was having a difficult time holding it in.
The human sheriff of the area was also no help. He knew what we were, and he was angry that there were limitations on what contributions we were obligated to. Because this land truly is owned by our family, though we must abide by their law, there were a lot of decisions we were able to make.
We have frequently interrupted constructions and growth they wanted to build on because it would have infringed on our people and their homes. And there was nothing they could do about it.
Namjoon and Yoongi met with him on several occasions. And though Namjoon and Yoongi both assure us, it's not petty revenge some of us believe otherwise.
Me, I don't know what to believe. I have a hard time not taking their words for truth, but something had to give. Something wasn't being shared by the human sheriff. I knew it but I had no way to prove it.
But today is quite a distraction from all of that.
It is our annual cook out that goes on all day. My brothers cook for everyone while Jungkook and I usually spend the entire day before setting up and even running a few of the games we had set up.
This year there were enough volunteers to miss the event that Hoseok was able to join and though Yoongi isn't exactly a social butterfly he was looking forward to seeing some of our traditions firsthand.
It was morning of, and Namjoon and Taehyung were starting up the giant grills we had near the community pool area when Hoseok jogged up to them.
"Can I help?"
"Nope." Namjoon smiled at him. "This is something we do every year for everyone else."
"On top of the million of other things you do for this pack every other day of they year?" He rebutted.
Namjoon stuck his tongue out at him and continued to clean off the grill, Tae opening up packages of meat.
Yoongi and I had helped the day before with Jungkook and everything was all set. Our pack had already started to show which really put a kick into Namjoon and Tae to start cooking.
For the entire day things seemed to go as they normally did. Games were played, we had a pack DJ set up their sound stage and people were laughing and enjoying themselves like they did every year.
