“Get down from there! Please! There is more to life than you think. Can’t you give your life another chance?”

“Leave me alone……..do you know how beautiful it looks down below? It’s as if I’ll gain a beautiful pair of feathered wings if I let go of this terrible life this once…….”

“Please! I know it’s getting hard for you now, but you’re not alone! First, calm down a bit and get down from there. I’m here to listen to all of your grief and troubles.”

He remembered those tired dull ocean blue eyes that had looked at him with an unfathomable gaze. Then he had seen the most beautiful yet what seemed like the most painful smile on the lips that had asked, “Really?”

That day Henry had saved an unknown girl. He had seen the girl standing on the railing of the hospital’s rooftop where he worked, when he had gone there for fresh air. Without hesitation, he had reached out to her. Life was precious. No one knew it better than him, the him who had seen the same view of the world from the railing of a rooftop years ago that the girl might have been seeing then.

She did get down. But, she just sat there silently with blank and lifeless eyes instead of sharing her pain and sorrow. He had also provided silent comfort. He knew it wasn’t easy to grab back a person who was just faltering on the edge of a cliff. That girl had clearly started to give her life a second chance to get better from that day on. So why was it that now he………he was seeing an ice cold corpse of her gorgeous milk white body lying serenely with closed eyes in a clear pool of blood with a peaceful smile on her pale and soft lips?

………what went wrong…..?

The conversations of the past few months flashed past his mind. That light smile she had on her face every time they met was seen but the dull eyes that never once gained a single shred of brightness had gone unnoticed.

…….What now? She had left him for forever and even ruthlessly broke all the dreams he had seen after taking the decision to confess his love for her.

The girl Henry loved committed suicide.

He thought he had saved her that day. But…….what was to be expected from a beautiful rose that had been kept in a pitch dark room? How long would the water given keep it alive?

That day the withering rose might have seen the sunlight from Henry but unfortunately it wasn’t able to adapt to the sparkling light it got after an endless time of darkness. The water he desperately provided just painfully corroded its roots.

Life is for sure precious…….but keeping it requires an equally precious price. That price…….it was heavy…….and she had just enough…..

A year passed.

It was about to be a year after her death now. Henry didn’t want to think but he still couldn’t help grieving. Her funeral was also held by him. In the name of friends and family, she apparently only had a blind old lady as her guardian. He was still deep in the pain of losing his first love. What’s more, he later found the last message she had for him- “It was fun……but I’m not worth it.” Everything just shattered and he was unable to repair anything. Forever.

The high pitched ringing phone finally returned him to reality. The roses and chrysanthemums he was preparing for a visit to her grave weren't even halfway done, the flowers wetted by drops of tears he was subconsciously shedding.
Wiping his face and somewhat adjusting his voice, he picked the phone up and took the call. It was his mother. A gentle voice asked, “Hello? Henry? Dear, do you have time to spare at the moment?” Henry desperately held his tears and very difficultly said, “Mom? Yes. I have time. Did you need something?”
