That night, Y/n couldn't sleep, the weight of the day's revelations and emotions pressing heavily on her mind. She decided to walk around the tower, hoping that some movement might help clear her head.
As she entered the training room, the Tesseract energy within her began to act up again. Quick flashes of her old life played before her eyes, each one a disjointed, painful memory. She fell to the ground, clutching her head as tears streamed down her face.
"Hey, it's okay," a voice whispered, gentle and soothing. "I'm here."
Y/n looked up to see Bucky, his face filled with concern. She clung to him, feeling a strange mix of comfort and confusion. "I don't understand any of this," she said, her voice muffled against his chest. "Why can't I remember you? Why does everything feel so wrong?"
Bucky sighed, his heart breaking for her. "You've been through so much, Y/n. Your mind is just trying to protect you. But we’ll help you remember, at your own pace. No pressure, okay?"
She nodded, sniffling. "Everyone keeps saying that. But what if I never remember? What if I'm always... broken?"
Bucky pulled back slightly, lifting her chin so she could look into his eyes. "You are not broken. You’re one of the strongest people I know. And whether you remember everything or not, we’re your family. We’ll always be here for you."
Y/n searched his eyes, finding sincerity and warmth there. "Okay," she whispered, leaning into him again. As they settled into a more comfortable position, Bucky started to speak, trying to lighten the mood.
"Remember the time you convinced me to try rollerblading?" Bucky began, a smile tugging at his lips.
Y/n looked at him, puzzled. "Rollerblading? Really?"
"Yeah," Bucky chuckled. "You said it would be fun and 'totally not dangerous at all.' Then, of course, I ended up face-planting in front of a bunch of kids."
Y/n laughed, the sound easing some of the tension in the room. "That does sound like something I'd do."
"Does accusing me and Steve of being a vampire sound like something you'd do?" He asked with a chuckle.
"I really did that?" She asked not feeling slightly embarrassed.
"Yeah, you did!" Bucky said while laughing.
"Well are you?" She asked and he rolled his eyes.
"No. Don't ask again. Oh there was that one time you tried to teach me to dance," Bucky continued, a playful glint in his eyes. "It was a disaster."
She raised an eyebrow, amused. "Oh really? How bad was it?"
"Let's just say I've never seen anyone trip over their own feet that many times in a row," Bucky teased.
Y/n giggled, the light-hearted banter helping her feel more at ease. "Well, maybe I was just a terrible teacher."
"Or maybe I was a terrible student," Bucky countered, grinning. "But I wouldn’t have changed a thing. It was fun."
"But my favorite moment was when me you and Sam sat on the roof just talking about our baby biggest wishes but I wouldn't tell you mine no matter how much you tried to convince me." Bucky laughed.
"So you ever planning on telling me?" She asked.
"Hopefully." He said with a charming smile.
She smiled, the warmth of their connection making her feel a little less lost. "You sound like a good friend."
"Yeah, friends." Bucky said, his tone was quite sad. "We’ve been through a lot."
Y/n looked at him, a mix of emotions in her eyes. "I'm sorry I can't remember all of that. But... thank you for being here now."
