Y/n was in the target practice room with a group of students her age. She was helping them with they're aim and just a few minutes with her made them improve significantly.
"I know you could always shoot multiple times and hopefully get your target but each bullet has the power to take a life. Why would you waste something so valuable. A gun can only hold so many bullets but the number of targets is very unpredictable. Never waste a bullet." She said while shooting one bullet through the heads of four randomly placed dummies.
They all stared in awe and she shot them a smirk. "You know you don't need these skills anymore. You could blow them up with your mind." A student joked and she laughed.
"Think I'm going to hold on to these skills for a while, don't have full control of these bad boys yet." She said while making her hands glow.
"Why don't you guys go rest up for tomorrow. You did great today." She said and the students dropped they're equipment and headed out.
"Bye y/n see you tomorrow!" One of them said while giving her an unexpected hug which she didn't know she needed. She hugged her back softly and waved them goodbye.
Instead of leaving she continues shooting for a while. She feels a presence in the room and she aims her gun at the door.
"It's just me." Bucky said with his hands up and she aims back to the target without acknowledging him any further. "You're not going to wear ear plugs?" He asked but she stayed quiet for a while but he's still standing there.
"Mel already left." She informed him as she put her gun away and took off the target glasses.
"Actually I was wondering if you needed a ride home. It's 8pm. Everyone is heading to they're dorms." He said with a soft smile.
"No." She said without giving him a reason and she grabbed her duffle bag and walked right past him.
Bucky watched Y/n walk past him, her expression unreadable. He sighed, running a hand through his hair before following her out of the room.
"Y/n, wait," Bucky called out, quickening his pace to catch up to her. She didn't stop, didn't even acknowledge him. "Come on, Y/n, can we just talk?"
"There's nothing to talk about," she said sharply, her voice tight as she kept her eyes fixed ahead.
Bucky hesitated but pushed on. "Look, I know things are complicated right now, but I don't want this to end like this. I don't want us to end like this."
Y/n let out a bitter laugh, finally coming to a stop. "End what, Bucky? What exactly are you trying to save here? You've moved on-hell, you've got Melinda waiting for you. So why are you still here Barnes?"
He stepped closer, searching her face for some sign that she still cared, that there was something left between them. "I'm here because I care about you, Y/n. Because I don't want to lose you, even as a friend. And because everything I wrote in that letter, everything I felt, was real."
She turned to face him, her eyes flashing with a mix of anger and pain. "If everything you wrote in that letter was real, Bucky, then we wouldn't be in this situation right now. We wouldn't be having this conversation."
Bucky's heart ached at her words, knowing she was right, knowing he had made choices that had led them to this moment. "I know I messed up. I should've waited, I should've. . ."
Y/n scoffed, shaking her head. "Shit Bucky! Don't stand there calling my friend a mistake. You don't owe me anything, Bucky. You never owed me anything. So do us both a favor and leave me the fuck alone."
He reached out as if to touch her arm, but she pulled back, her gaze cold. "Y/n, please," he pleaded. "I just want to make things right."
"Make things right?" she repeated, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "And how exactly do you plan on doing that? The only way to make this right is go back in time and burn that fucking letter to ashes."
