CHAPTER 16

It had been a few hours since I had been watching Erix as he painted my image on the canvas. A silly smile was still on my lips and every minute Erix looked at me with shining eyes.

ㅡThere you go.ㅡ He moved away from the painting so I could see his work. There I was with a radiant smile and my hand touched one of my cheeks.

ㅡThis is so beautiful! Is it really me?ㅡ Erix laughed at my question and wrapped one of his arms around my waist, giving me a kiss on the forehead.

ㅡYes, it is, my dear.ㅡ His words made me blush.

ㅡI never imagined you knew how to be cute.ㅡ I arched an eyebrow.

It must have been around six in the afternoon when Erix parked the car in front of my house.

I didn't have the courage to leave my room. I just lay down and pretended to be asleep when I heard Ma's footsteps approaching.

She didn't say anything, she just grabbed the blanket and covered me up to my shoulders and left the room.

I opened my eyes and a tear fell. Several questions started running through my head, like "how long had they been together?" and "why didn't she tell me?"

I squeezed my eyes tightly and forced myself to sleep, thus preventing more tears from rolling down my face and wetting the pillow.

ㅡWhy are you so quiet?ㅡErix asked, taking me out of my thoughts. We were in her car, going to school, and I hadn't said a word besides "good morning" since I left home.

ㅡIt's nothing big, it's just that I found out that ma is dating. ㅡI looked down at my hands on my lap.ㅡOn one hand, I felt happy for her, but on the other hand... I was upset that she didn't tell me sooner.

Erix parked the car and looked at me. He touched my head and placed a kiss on my forehead.

ㅡDon't be like that, my dear. Maybe she was going to tell you, but you ended up falling asleep.

ㅡYou didn't answer my messages.ㅡHe opened the car door and got out. Soon after, he opened the door next to me. When I got out, I checked my phone. He really had sent me a message.

Erix intertwined our hands and my cheeks got redder every time we passed a group of people. They stared at us and whispered something to each other. Erix didn't seem to care about any of this.

Although I was a little bothered by this, I didn't want to separate from Erix. When I saw those scenes in school dramas where the protagonists started dating, I hated it when the protagonist didn't want to expose her relationship with the hero. It seemed like she was ashamed of him.

I wasn't ashamed of Erix. I loved him and wanted to be with him whenever I could.

I looked at Erix and caught him staring at me with a smile on the corner of his face. I felt my face burn and turned to the teacher, whom I didn't know, who had just entered.

ㅡGood morning, everyone. Today I'll be the substitute math teacher. I hope we get along well today.ㅡ He said and started writing something on the board.

I felt like I was being watched, so I swept my eyes around the room and found Zara staring at me with a frown.

I shook my head. I started copying the activities and ignored the curious looks on me.

Before we started our class, the principal asked me to talk to you about the summer camp we’re having next month, after exam week.ㅡ Excited murmurs spread throughout the room and the teacher waved his hands in the air to silence everyone. ㅡOnly the two third years will be going, so if you have a boyfriend in another grade, I’m sorry.

The hours passed and all I wanted was for class to end soon. I was so curious about the place where Erix would take me that I couldn't even pay attention to what the teacher was saying.

So, after the long classes, the last bell finally rang and that made me get up quickly and put my backpack on my shoulders.

Erix started the car and we were almost leaving the city when he stopped. I found the place full of trees and the dubious light strange.
