Chapter 20 - The Council

As we stepped into the grand hall, my eyes were immediately drawn to the imposing table that stretched out before us. Its length seemed to symbolize the endless power and authority that the regal vampires possessed. With their impeccable posture and unwavering presence, they sat at the table.

The atmosphere was heavy with anticipation as the council engaged in intense discussion. Their voices filled the room, but as soon as Lord Dragomir made his entrance, a hushed silence fell upon the hall. All eyes turned towards us, their gazes piercing through my very soul.

It had been a while since I last stood in this hall, the memories still fresh in my mind. It was here that I had emerged from that blood-soaked bathtub, barely escaping the clutches of the Beast. It was here that I had made the life-altering decision to become the bride of the Lord. Yet, even now, I found myself questioning the true meaning of such a role, and whether I had the audacity to seek answers.

As Lord Dragomir guided me through the room, his grip firm on my arm, I couldn't help but feel the remnants of our recent encounter. My core was still wet and dripping, a physical reminder of what had transpired. It dawned on me then that this was all part of his plan - to provoke a reaction from the Vampirc Council, to assert his dominance.

I stood by Lord Dragomir's side, the weight of his presence and the intensity of the council's gaze making my heart race. The silence in the room was deafening, each member of the council waiting for Lord Dragomir to address them.

The weight of Lord Dragomir's voice reverberated through the hall, instantly capturing the attention of the regal vampires seated around the table. His words, delivered with an unwavering air of authority and confidence, demanded their full focus.

"Members of the Vampiric Council," Lord Dragomir's voice boomed, commanding attention and respect. "I can't help but wonder why you have graced us with your presence a night earlier than expected." His piercing gaze swept across the room, his eyes filled with a mixture of curiosity and a hint of skepticism.

Lord Dragomir strode confidently to the head of the table, his presence commanding attention as he took his seat. Without hesitation, he reached out and forcefully pulled me towards him, seating me upon his lap.

The council members exchanged glances, a mixture of surprise and disapproval in their eyes. One of them, a tall vampire with sharp features and piercing blue eyes, finally spoke up. "Lord Dragomir, our early arrival is due to pressing matters that cannot wait. The balance of power within our realm is at stake, and we must act swiftly."

Lord Dragomir's gaze never wavered. "Speak then," he commanded, his voice cold and unyielding. "What matters are so urgent that they require such abrupt actions?"

The tall vampire, cleared his throat. "The king has gone missing"

Lord Dragomir's expression remained unchanged, his composure unyielding. With a smug edge to his voice, he replied, "I know—I destroyed him." His words hung in the air, a bold declaration that sent shockwaves through the hall.

The council members gasped in surprise, their eyes widening at Lord Dragomir's revelation. The room fell into a stunned silence, the weight of his words hanging in the air. It was clear that his actions had caught them off guard, challenging their understanding of the power dynamics within their realm.

Lord Dragomir's grip on me tightened as he continued, his voice filled with an air of superiority. "The king was a weak and ineffective leader," he stated, his tone dripping with disdain. "I have taken it upon myself to remove him from power and claim my rightful place as the ruler of our realm."
