RAELYN DOESN'T REMEMBER when she fell asleep but the sudden stop of the train has her launching forward, she would have almost definitely fallen face-first onto the hay-covered cart floor if it wasn't for Hy catching her.
His hold on her was strong, but not hurtful. The older boy smiled kindly at her as he helped her back up and leaned her back against the cart wall.
"Thanks," Raelyn tells him quietly.
"No problem," Hy responds, his voice calm and chilled. That was something she'd noticed about her eighteen-year-old district partner. He seemed to be so unfazed by their current situation.
"What's happening?" The voice of Mizzen calls out. Fear radiates through his tone, but he tries to keep a brave face.
"We've stopped again," Hy announces.
"Thanks for that, Captain Obvious," Coral responds snarkily.
"Aren't you a ray of sunshine this morning," Hy retorts with his own snark.
Raelyn slaps him gently, pulling him away from his argument with Coral. The sound of shouting coming from outside the cattle cart enters her ears.
Before any more questions can be asked, the cattle cart door is hauled open, it squeaks and creaks on its hinges. Once it's fully open, a large slam echoes across the cart as the sun's bright light shines in on them.
The Tributes all look around, confused at one another.
"Everyone out now!" a stern voice calls out. Nobody moves for a moment before Coral climbs to her feet and she walks to the cart entrance with an air of confidence that Raelyn has never seen before.
She turns back to Raelyn and winks at her before jumping down onto the station platform, Mizzen quickly follows suit trying to display the same confidence his District partner did but it's clear to anyone the young boy is shaking in his shoes he then also jumps down carefully.
Hy and Raelyn look at each other before Hy steps forward. Raelyn slowly makes her way to her feet and follows after him. She watches as he carefully jumps onto the station and walks down the platform giving Raelyn room to jump down.
The blinding light of the sun shines straight into Raelyn's eyes. Causing her to have to lift her hand to her face to shield her eyes, she jumps down onto the platform. Hy is quickly by her side again, a warm smile on his face.
Raelyn looks around at the station and notices it's full of peacekeepers. They are herding the other tributes like cattle. A set of them approaches Hy and Raelyn and the pair are led down the platform. They are taken to where Coral and Mizzen are standing. Along with the pair from Seven, they had joined the cart whilst Raelyn was sleeping.
Raelyn took in the details of the station. It was much more looked after and kept together than the one back in Five. Something else then caught her attention a little further down the platform. She sees a boy dressed in a dark red uniform handing a girl in a rainbow dress a white rose.
