A buzzing sound of my phone wakes my being. I groan and picked up my phone in a lazy manner. My eyes widened upon seeing the caller's name on my screen.
Agad akong napa-upo sa aking kama. “Hello?”
“Good morning,” Zechariah greeted me on the other line.
“Good morning. Napa-tawag ka... What happened?”
“I’m just informing you that you don't need to work today. My mother took Gamila this morning.” Zechariah's bedroom voice is like a music to my ears.
“Ah, okay.” The corner of my mouth turned up. Must be nice hearing this voice everytime you wake up.
“But I will pick you up at 6 PM this evening. Please dress nicely.”
“Why?” kunot-noong tanong ko.
Zechariah sigh. “It’s my birthday. Mother forced me to celebrate it.”
“Really?” I said, acting surprised when in fact I couldn't sleep last night due of excitement. “Uhm, what should I wear? Did she throw a big party for you?”
“It’s only a formal birthday dinner. Just wear something formal.”
I nodded even though he can't see me. “Okay!”
“Hmm, goodbye,” saad niya.
“Goodbye!” I couldn't hide the enthusiasm in my voice as I bid my goodbye.
After my phone beeped, signaling the end of the call, my gaze landed on the bedside table where a freshly printed book, adorned with a delicate mauve wrapper, rested. It had been days since I completed writing Zechariah and Margarita's story. Subsequently, I reached out to a printing and publishing house to have it printed, but solely for my personal collection.
This book is intended for Zechariah's eyes only.
“I hope he will like it.” The corner of my mouth quirked up.
I put back my phone on the bedside table and made my way out of my room. I went straight to the kitchen where I found Thaddeus preparing our breakfast on the kitchen island.
I walk closer to the kitchen Island and sat on one of the kitchen island bamboo stool, right in front of Thaddeus. “Good morning, Thaddeus!” I greeted Thaddeus with full of energy.
“Good morning. Why aren't you dress yet?” Thaddeus brows knitted in confusion.
I grabbed a spoon and fork as I look down at my plate that already has toasted bread, beacon, and scramble egg on it.
“I don't have a work today.” My mouth is already watering with the sight of the perfectly cooked sunny side up.
“Ugh, bummer. Why does it have to be to day?” Thaddeus shook his head in disappoinment.
“Bakit?”
“Mero’n kasing café na matagal ko ng gustong puntahan kasama ka pero sobrang busy mo naman kay Gamila... at ” he mumbled something after mentioning Gamila that I didn't heard.
“We can go today,” I suggested.
He sighed. “I need to leave at 7:30 AM this morning. Tinawagan ako ni Dad kahapon, kailangan ko daw bumalik sa resort. May aasikasuhin lang ako.”
Kunot-noong napatingin ako sa wall clock. It's already 6:48 AM. “And you just bothered to tell me this right now?”
“I was about to tell you last night, but when you got home, you immediately fell on the mattress.”
