I rushed as fast as I could to left that place, paying no mind to the endless tears streaming down my cheeks. But with each passing moment, my eyes grew blurry as the tears continued to flow. The pain in my chest intensified, as if someone were mercilessly squeezing it, making each heartbeat worsen the agony.
Annoyance washed over me as I suddenly tripped on a rock, causing me to dive onto the road. A moan escaped my mouth as my knee met the hard surface.
I sat down on the road. My entire knee was almost red from the multiple bruises.
“Ugh!” I frustratedly grip my hair and pull it multiple times.
You foolish girl! I hate you! I hate you! I hate you! You shouldn't have said those things! You ruin your chance! You blow it up!
“Shut up!” I breathe sharply as I covered my ear's.
You should have just stayed quiet just like you always are! You should have not talk back to her, you stupid girl! Now everyone hates you! Thanks to what you've did!
“No.” I shook my head as the wave of guilt hit me.
Everyone hates you and it's your fault!
“No... not everyone.”
One person suddenly pop out of my mind.
Zechariah walk down the grand staircase with his messy hair.
Zechariah rushed towards the receiving area when our eyes locked.
“What happened to you?” he said when he finally closed our distance. His eyes scanned my whole body then he suddenly furrowed his brow as he lowered his gaze.
“Odette, get me the emergency kit and an ice wrapped with a cloth,” he ordered to Odette without taking his eyes off me.
Odette attentively nodded and walk away, leaving me with Zechariah who's staring at me intensely.
“What happened?” he ask softly, again.
I forced a smile. “A-Ayaw nila sa akin,” parang batang nagsusumbong na ani ko.
I laughed at myself. “I-I... I thought this o-one would be d-different but I was w-wrong—” without a warning Zechariah suddenly locked me in his arms.
My sobs echoed throughout the receiving area. I buried my face on his chest. I don't know why but how he gently patted my back with his callused hand give me solace. I felt at ease but just his simple touch. His arms feel like... home.
“Shh, if they don't want you, you still have me... us behind your back. Always,” his voice was hoarse.
“P-Promise?” I sniffed.
He pulled away from our hug. I pouted.
The corner of his mouth turned up. He cupped my face and wipe my tears with his thumb. “I promise.”
A cough suddenly echoed that diverted our attention. “Ah, e, ito na po ’yong emergency kit at ice, sir,” nahihiyang saad ni Odette.
I look away, feeling embarrassed that she saw me crying. I silently wipe my tears away.
“Thank you, Odette. You may now rest,” sabi ni Zechariah.
“Sige po, sir.” She then left again after she gave Zechariah the emergency kit and the ice.
