Manhattan, New York
Monday, Nov. 4Onika wiped the sweat from her face and arms as she stood up from the reformer. After a well-needed, hour-long pilates class with one of her best friends, she was extremely tired, but she knew that she wouldn't be getting a nap in anytime soon. Despite Monday being her day off, she had an important meeting to attend.
"I swear this shit never gets easier," Cassie sighed, taking a long sip from her water bottle immediately after.
"I'm not consistent at all, so imagine how I feel," Onika laughed.
The two women headed into the locker room together to freshen up and grab their belongings. Onika tiredly punched in the pen to her designated locker and opened it before pulling out the large pink Goyard tote that she kept her clothes and shoes in. She hated showering in any public restrooms, no matter how clean or exclusive, but she also hated being in the car with her sweaty workout attire, so she always made sure to pack a change of clothes for the ride back home. After peeling off the athletic shorts, Onika changed into a pair of sweats and pulled on a matching hoodie over her sports bra. She then gathered all of her things into the expensive tote and slid on her shoes.
"Thanksgiving is coming up," Cassie said as they began their walk out of the locker room. "Any plans?"
"I have a meeting in two hours that will determine my whereabouts on Thanksgiving. If I'm still in New York by then, I'll be at the estate like always."
Every year, Carol and Robert Maraj held a Thanksgiving dinner party where friends and family from all over were invited. They would invite colleagues, business partners, longtime friends, and they would even fly in their extended family members from Trinidad. The Maraj Hamptons Thanksgiving celebration was a big deal, and photos and stories from the night would always spread throughout the media like wildfire the morning after.
"If you're there, save me a plate of that good Trini food! I'll be in Connecticut that weekend," Cassie pouted.
"I'll mail that plate to you," Onika laughed softly.
They stepped outside into the cool November air, and Onika shivered a little, stuffing her hands into the pocket of her hoodie.
"Well, just call me next Monday, and we can do this again," Cassie told her, going in for a hug.
"I will," Onika smiled, hugging her back. "Love you, Cass."
"Aww, love you too, NicNac. Bye! Be safe!"
The two women parted ways, heading to their vehicles. As soon as Onika got into her Range Rover, she wasted no time throwing her bag into the passenger seat, starting the car, and turning the heat onto the max level. New York's temperature was no joke in the fall and wintertime. While she waited on her car to warm up completely, she sighed and sat back, unlocking her phone. Almost immediately after she unlocked it, a call was coming through.
