"And you're saying he's than better you?" I ask, as Stiles, Malia, and I walk down the hallway.

Stiles scoffs, adjusting the strap of his backpack over his shoulder. "Yes! Like super human reflexes type of good. He has to be something," he grumbles.

"He's just a freshman," I shrug. "Besides, I have faith in you. Don't worry." I lean up and place a quick kiss on his cheek, watching as a grin spreads across his face.

Malia pulls a face. "Gross," she mutters.

I roll my eyes at her as we reach the classroom door. Malia pauses, peering into the room and slowly turning back around.

"Nuh uh," I say, grabbing her by the shoulders and steering her back into the classroom. "You're going in."

"I hate math. It's pointless," she whines, dragging her feet as I push her forward.

"I hate it too, but it's school," I remind her with a shrug.

"School is important, and math is essential," Stiles adds.

"To what?" Malia asks as we take our seats. I plop down behind her, with Stiles sitting next to me, behind Lydia.

"Knowing how much to tip at restaurants," Stiles says, dropping his backpack to the floor.

"Counting your groceries," I suggest as Malia turns in her seat to look at me.

Lydia looks up from her book, giving us both a look that says we're missing the point. "And other less important things like medicine, economics, engineering."

Stiles nods. "Tipping."

"Groceries," I repeat, earning a frown from Malia.

"All right, volunteers to the board. Lydia, Diego, Malia," Ms. Flemming calls out.

I sigh and cover my face with my hand.

Malia blinks, looking up in surprise. "Um," she shakes her head. "I didn't volunteer."

"You did now. To the board," Ms. Flemming says, with a tilt of her head toward the board.

Malia slowly turns in her seat to look at me. I force a supportive smile and give her a thumbs up. "You got it," I whisper.

She lets out a quiet growl, and my smile drops as she reluctantly gets up from her seat. I glance at Stiles, who just shrugs in response.
