BLAKE
‧₊˚ ★

Stiles powers on the laptops, the screens flickering to life, each displaying the security camera feeds. So now we can monitor every inch of the building and somehow track down the Benefactor. Which, is highly unlikely.

Minutes stretch out in silence, the room filled only with the soft hum of the computers. We watch the feeds, seeing nothing but still hallways. It feels like a waiting game we can't win. Then suddenly, one of the camera feeds flickers. The screen glitches, static fuzzing over it before the image goes black.

"Is that supposed to look like that?" Liam asks, leaning in, pointing at the now-dark square on the screen.

"No," Stiles mutters, narrowing his eyes in concern. "No, it's not."

"Where is that?" Kira asks, shifting closer, her brow furrowed.

"The roof," I say.

"Someone's gonna have to check it out," Stiles says slowly.

"I'll go," Kira says immediately, stepping forward.

"Woah, woah. This might not be just a malfunction," Stiles says, raising his hands.

"That's why I'm bringing this," Kira replies, holding up her katana, the blade gleaming under the dim lights.

Stiles hesitates, but he finally nods.

"I'm coming with you," Liam says quickly, almost too quickly, as if he's trying to convince himself as much as everyone else.

"I'll go too," I offer, stepping forward, glancing at Stiles just long enough to see the brief flicker of hurt cross his face.

"Blake," Kira says, stopping me before I can move. "I think it's best if you stay. Two people per place. We need someone here in case if something happens."

I stare at her, wanting to argue but knowing deep down that she's right. "Fine," I mutter, trying not to sound too frustrated.

Kira and Liam sprint out of the room, their footsteps quickly disappearing down the hallway.

"You're both coming right back! Immediately!" I call after them, hoping it doesn't take any longer than five minutes. The last thing I want is to be here any longer than necessary, stuck with Stiles.

The silence that follows is suffocating. Stiles and I are left standing in the room, the awkwardness between us is thick. I can feel him glancing at me, but I keep my eyes fixed on the darkened screens. Anything is better than meeting his gaze right now.

I know we're not broken up. But it feels like it.

"Blake," he finally whispers, his voice soft but insistent. "Please, can we just talk?"
