"It's a dead pool," Scott says grimly, placing the piece of paper down on Stilinski's desk. "A hit list of supernatural creatures." He taps the page. "This is just one part of it. The rest still has to be decoded.
Stilinski's eyes scan the paper, his expression growing more serious by the second. "Who found this list?" he asks, glancing between us.
"Lydia did," I say.
"How?" Stilinski asks, narrowing his eyes in confusion.
I hesitate for a moment before explaining. "She wrote it." I let the words hang in the air for a second. "Or I guess she actually transcribed it. But she didn't know she was actually transcribing it."
"Banshee?" Stilinski says, his brow furrowing.
"Banshee," I confirm with a nod.
"Beautiful," he mutters sarcastically, rubbing his temple. "Alright, what are these numbers next to the names?"
"We're getting to that," Stiles cuts in. "First, you need to know the code was broken with a cipher key."
"Wait. You mean, like a... like a key word?" Stilinski asks, leaning forward.
"It's actually a name." Stiles clarifies, glancing at Scott.
Scott's face darkens, his voice barely above a whisper. "Allison."
The weight of that name drops like a stone in the room. For a moment, we all fall silent. I can see the pain flicker across Scott's face, his eyes clouding over with memories. Stilinski looks at him sympathetically, giving a slow nod.
"Her name broke a third of the list," Stiles continues, breaking the heavy silence.
"And uh, we think they're two other cipher keys." Scott adds, his voice distant but steady.
"Which will give us the rest of the names." Stilinski says, his eyes moving from Scott to Stiles and finally resting on me. We all nod in unison.
"Okay," Stilinski exhales deeply, his hands on his hips. "So how do we get the cipher keys?"
"The same way we got the first one," I say, leaning forward. "Lydia. She's been holed up at the lake house all weekend, trying to figure out the next cipher keys."
Stilinski's eyes flicker with concern as he shuffles through some papers on his desk. "And you didn't know about Demarco or Carrie. Hm?" He pulls out crime scene photos, the gruesome images of their injuries laid bare in front of us. "And what about these other two names on the list? Uh, Kayleen Bettcher and Elias Town. They werewolves too?"
