BLAKE
‧₊˚ ★

Scott mumbles something from the other end of the line before ending the call. Stiles lets out a sigh, slipping his phone back into his pocket. "He said he'll text us in a minute,"

I nod, sitting on the edge of Scott's bed, absently running a hand through my hair. Stiles settles down next to me, his face lingering on my side profile. I feel his eyes on me and turn to meet his stare.

"What?" I ask, a faint smile tugging at my lips.

"Nothing," he replies, his voice soft. "Just looking at you."

A smile breaks across my face as I glance down at the floor, feeling a blush warm my cheeks. His heartbeat quickens, and I can almost feel the tension in the air as he takes a deep breath.

"Blake," he begins, his tone serious, "there's something I have to tell you."

"Yeah?" I look back up, meeting his eyes, just as my phone buzzes in my pocket. I pull it out quickly, seeing a text from Scott.

"He wants me to meet him at the school, with Malia and Peter," I say, standing up from the bed.

Stiles stands up with me, a small nod of understanding. "Yeah, okay, you go, it'll be faster. I'll meet you there."

I pause, my eyes searching his. "After we get Derek back, you'll tell me?"

He nods again, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Yeah," he whispers. "Sure."

I reach the school just in time to spot Scott, Malia, and Peter running up the stairs, their figures barely visible in the low light. The cold air bites at my skin, making me aware of every breath I take. The few lights still on outside the school cast long, eerie shadows.

Malia abruptly halts, turning her head slightly, catching my presence before I've fully joined them. I jog up to her, as Scott and Peter stop as well. Peter's gaze lingers on me a beat longer than necessary as if trying to decipher some sort of secret, and I narrow my eyes at him.

But Malia's sudden, sharp movement draws my attention back to her.

"What is it? Did you catch a scent?" I ask.

"It's the same one," Malia breathes. "The same one as Mexico."

I nod slowly, sensing the same scent. "I smell it too," I confirm.
