At approximately ten o'clock in the morning, an angel appeared in the skies of the city, people passing by the streets stopped dead to look and record the angel. The government's policy of hiding the appearance of angels from the public eye was no longer possible, especially now that one of them appeared so openly like this.
The angel was a woman with long ash blonde hair and green eyes, she looked at the humans and spoke.
"Greetings, humans." Her voice was melodious, and compared to the male angel, she spoke in a language that humans could understand.
Everyone watched in amusement, as they continued to record the angel live.
"I, Uriel, have an announcement to make." She smiled. "Our God decided to give humans a second chance, but that will only be if the espers and guides manage to clear this high-level portal." With a flick of Uriel's finger, a portal began to materialize in the sky. "To save humanity, espers and guides must enter and cleanse this portal within a month, otherwise all humans will perish."
With her divine words spoken and message given, the angel dissipated as mysteriously as she appeared, leaving behind the audience murmuring in concern and wonder, their eyes filled with terror.
The live broadcast recorded by citizens reached the headquarters of the espers association. Kim Dokja was currently in the training area together with Lee Hyunsung, when the announcement was broadcast on the screen.
"Just one month to cleanse a high-level portal, it seems that God really wants humanity to be eradicated." S-rank guide Lee Hyunsung stopped training to look at the screen.
"How grateful of them for giving us the opportunity to save our asses." Kim Dokja said sarcastically, clearly annoyed by the announcement and the angels' audacity.
"I wonder if the current S-rank guides and espers will be able to clear that portal." Hyunsung couldn't help but feel worried, knowing that there aren't many powerful espers and guides.
Kim Dokja couldn't say anything to lighten the mood, he was also aware of the dire situation, but if they don't do anything then everyone will surely die, better to die trying than to give up.
Kim Dokja took a deep breath.
"We might have a chance to succeed, Yoo Joonghyuk and Sun Wukong are both truly powerful espers, let's trust them and the other espers."
Lee Hyunsung agreed with the positive spirit his fellow companion showed.
The day passed quickly, and soon all the B, A, and S rank espers and guides were summoned to the director's office. Everyone had already received orders regarding their imminent mission, they must prepare to enter the portal. There were no rules, just clean the portal before a month passed, everything was allowed.
Still, most of the espers and guides were anxious about the ordeal ahead. The mission was probably the most dangerous one they had to face in their entire lives as espers and guides, and for them it could be a final test to measure their strength and bring peace to humanity.
They all left the organization and returned home, some had an optimistic view of their ability to win, others, well, did everything they could to resist.
Tomorrow the mission will begin, only with those who are capable enough to clear a high-level portal.
...
The day that would mark a great milestone for humanity had arrived. The 10 most capable and famous espers, along with their guides, gathered at the Esper Association headquarters. Gathered in a room and awaited further instructions before entering the portal, where unknown monsters awaited. The tension was so thick, that even the most emotionally indifferent person like Joonghyuk felt his chest tighten.
