The streets of Tokyo buzzed with the lively energy of a city that never seemed to sleep. The afternoon sun cast long shadows between the towering skyscrapers as the dense crowd of pedestrians moved in a steady rhythm. Tokyo was its usual cacophony of honking cars, chattering voices, and the distant hum of subway trains. Amid this urban orchestra, a teenager Tomi Kuromiya made her way home from school, her steps light and her mood buoyant.

With a satisfied sigh, Tomi reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. She tapped the screen to unlock it and was immediately greeted by a cascade of text messages. Her friends had been busy.

From Yui: "Did you hear about the new café that opened? We should check it out!"

From Saki: "Hey Tomi! Want to catch a movie tomorrow? If you do, can you bring your lollipop?"

From Mai: "Don't forget the study group later!"

From Jiro: "Don't bother to text me about hanging out today... got fencing today."

And from Tsubaki, Yui's sister: "Yo! I hope you're having a good day! Sorry, I didn't see you at school but I promise you I will see ya!"

Tomi's lips curved into a smile as she read through the messages. Her friends' enthusiasm was infectious, and it was clear that despite the hectic school day, her evening would be filled with familiar, comforting activities.

As she strolled along the busy street, the phone's notifications began to fade into the background. Her attention was captivated by the lively street scenes around her the food stalls, street performers, and the bright neon signs that seemed to pulse with life.

Then, without warning, something bizarre occurred. The vibrant cityscape around her seemed to stutter, as if caught in a loop. The people in the crowd began to glitch and flicker, their forms distorting and shifting unnaturally. The noises of the city warped into an unsettling buzz, like the interference of a broken radio.

Tomi's heart skipped a beat. She turned her head to the side, hoping it was just a trick of the light or a fleeting hallucination. But then she heard it a voice, clear and chilling, cutting through the chaos.

"Soon, the 13th day will come..."

The voice was like a whispering shadow, fading as quickly as it had appeared. In an instant, the scene returned to its normal, bustling pace. The people resumed their routines, the cars honked their familiar symphony, and the sun continued its steady journey across the sky. Tomi blinked, disoriented. She shook her head, trying to clear the strange vision from her mind.

(Tomi) "I... must be imagining things."

She muttered to herself. Maybe she was more tired than she realized. Trying to shake off the unsettling moment, Tomi reached into her pocket for her lollipop. She unwrapped it with practiced ease and popped it into her mouth, savoring the sweet burst of flavor. With her wireless earphones already in place, she tapped her phone to start her favorite playlist.

The familiar melodies helped ground her as she resumed her walk home, the afternoon sun warming her face and the rhythm of her music soothing her nerves.

Unbeknownst to Tomi, a small, curious creature trailed her from a distance. It resembled a cat, with fur as dark as midnight and eyes that glowed with an otherworldly light. It moved with a stealthy grace, darting between shadows and always keeping Tomi within its line of sight.
