"Beep..."

"Beep..."

"Beep..."

"Beep..."

Kaito lay in the sterile hospital bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. A bandage wrapped around his head felt tight and uncomfortable, while the scars on his face and the casts enveloping his arms and legs were constant reminders of the accident. Tears threatened to spill as he listened to the faint sounds of the hospital, but the voice from the television in the corner drew his attention.

(News Reporter) "Last Tuesday at 12:30 PM, a bullet train derailed and crashed to the ground, resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities among passengers. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist the injured and assess the damage. Witnesses described a scene of chaos as people evacuated the train, while authorities are currently investigating the cause of the derailment. The train, which was traveling from Tokyo to Osaka, had been carrying approximately 300 passengers at the time of the accident. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available."

Kaito's breath hitched as the words sunk in. He hugged his pillow tightly, feeling the weight of his grief crash over him like a wave.

(Kaito) "Mum... Dad..."

His sobs broke free, each gasping a painful reminder of their absence. He closed his eyes, letting the tears flow as the memories flashed in his mind laughter, warmth, love all now shattered.

Just then, the door creaked open, and Nurse Kae stepped in, followed by a man Kaito didn't recognize. She sat in the chair beside him, her expression a mix of compassion and concern.

(Nurse Kae) "Kaito?"

He sat up abruptly, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.

(Kaito) "Sorry you have to see me like this."

(Nurse Kae) "I know... You heard the news, right?"

(Kaito) "Yes. Just... how could this have happened?"

(Nurse Kae) "Sometimes, things happen that we can't explain."

Kaito's heart sank further.

(Kaito) "I feel so alone all the time. I can still hear the screams, the crash... I never got to say goodbye."

His voice cracked, and he buried his face in the pillow, feeling utterly lost.

(Kaito) "I won't see them again..."

Kae gently placed her hand over his.

(Nurse Kae) "I know it's hard."

(Kaito) "I just wanted to say thank you... for taking care of me."

(Nurse Kae) "That's what I do, Kaito. But there's someone else here who wants to talk to you."

Kaito looked up as the man beside Kae leaned forward, his expression kind.

(Masami) "Hello, my name is Masami. Kae told you about me?"

(Kaito) "You're Kae's husband."

(Nurse Kae) "That's right."

(Kaito) "What are you both doing here?"

(Masami) "Well, Kae and I want to have a baby..."

(Nurse Kae) "But there are some medical challenges that are a bit too complex for you right now."

(Kaito) "Let me guess... low motility and an inhospitable environment?"

(Masami) "How did you know that?"
