"Our Grandpa would tell us stories...about the monsters he fought during the war"

————————————————-

It had been nearly three months since Jake and (y/n) Portman had found their beloved Grandfather severely wounded in a dark woods behind his house. After meeting with the police, Jake was convinced he had seen a tall dark monster, with long arms, no eyes and slivering tentacles pouring out of its mouth lurking behind Shelly after encountering their Grandpa. The monster he had described had been almost identical to the ones their Grandfather would talk about in bedtime stories to the teens when they were younger.

After that night, even if (y/n) hadn't seen any monsters Jake had seen, the real trauma was finding her Grandpa with his eyes gouged out, dying slowly in a woods. The twins had both become practically glued together. The pair barley returned to school after the summer break due to the traumatic events that had occurred, they were advised to 'take a break for their mental health', suggested a psychiatrist they had been seeing, a honey blonde haired woman with pale skin and olive green eyes named Doctor Golan.

The twins would sit together at every family gathering, never go too far from home either. And they would have nightmares and usually fall asleep in the living room on the sofa or pillows, and of course they never even dreamt of visiting their Grandfathers home again. It broke their hearts too much. But once a week they would pay their psychiatrist a visit, organised by their worried parents who patiently waited outside the room every session.

"It's perfectly normal to think you saw something, Jake. You were panicked, and scared in the moment. Almost everything would have felt like a threat to you" Doctor Golan reassured, leaning back into her office chair. The twins were paying her a visit in her sad beige office, though it was a small room, there was a large leather sofa at one end and Doctor Golans desk at the other. It was also full of random objects such as a large wooden vase full of dehydrated dull flowers, a glowing fish tank by the door swimming with little grey fish, and a large modern painting of grey, yellow and hazel splatters and blobs. This place was anything but magical.

"But I did see something...it was a monster I swear it was-" Jake anxiously leaned forward on the black leather couch him and (y/n) had sat on. "There was...no one there that I saw" (y/n) looked up at the woman with a small sigh.

"Well considering this was only just three months ago, I think you're both doing exceptionally well" the woman smiled kindly at the two, adjusting her glasses. Jake scoffed and fiddled with his hands. "Apart from going crazy?" "We've only attended school for one week this term, even at that I can't concentrate. And neither of us have actually slept properly since we found Grandpa. We keep having bad dreams about what happened to him constantly" (Y/n) admitted. "Having nightmares and anxiety doesn't make you crazy" the woman said. "But what about seeing things that aren't there?" Jake spoke up, looking at the blonde haired woman.

"Your unconscious mind drew an imagine from a book or maybe a movie" Doctor Golan said. "It was...it was a story. Our Grandpa would tell us stories when we're kids...about monsters that he fought in the war" Jake said. "So there you go. He was horribly attacked and in your head the man who did it was inhuman, a monster" the older woman nodded.

"It-it wasn't a man though" Jake's voice grew louder in annoyance. "Jake...don't be rude" (y/n) glared at him. "The cops said that dogs broke the back door, and he chased them off into the woods. And the coroner said he had a heart attack...and the cops said that the dogs got to his eyes..." the dark haired boy sighed. "they dna tested the knife and it had animal dna...so that's case closed" (y/n) finished, clasping her hands together.
