13~ Panicked Peculiars

"If something happened to you here...I would never forgive myself"

After witnessing Miss Peregrines swift and successful chore of shooting an invisible monster with a crossbow it didn't take long for (Y/n), Enoch, Jake and Emma to follow the raven haired headmistress inside the houses doors.

"We call them Hollowgast. Hollows for short" Miss Peregrine drew her pipe from her lips as the smoke danced around the air. The five sat in the living room where they had gathered to watch Horace's interesting dream the night before. Jake and Enoch sat on opposite ends on one of the two couches while (Y/n) sat in the middle. Miss Peregrine perched herself upon its arm rest. "Our Grandpa told us about those monsters remember?" Jake turned his head to his sister. "The ones who turn into monsters..." (Y/n) thought aloud as she recalled her Grandfather's old bedtime tales.

Miss Peregrine closed her eyes for a brief moment as she sighed quietly. "I will explain everything to you both. I fear that it is my duty now, considering. But I hope you are aware that by doing so I'm breaking a solemn promise" the woman said.

"I knew you were both peculiar when you were born. But your Grandfather forbid me to tell you anything. His dearest wish was that his two grandchildren would have an ordinary childhood," "We definitely had that" nodded Jake. "He wanted me to tell you the truth after you turned eighteen. He hoped that his 'bedtime stories' would pave the way" Miss Peregrine rested her pipe upon her bottom lip once again.

Just then, Emma picked up a thick bronze coloured book, passing it to the raven haired woman. "Ah, here's my book" Miss Peregrine held it tightly before sitting down beside Jake. (Y/n) peeked over her brother's shoulder to get a better look. The cover of the unusual book was painted in strange bronze looking designs amd a title named 'Peculiar History'.

Miss Peregrine flicked open the pages until she landed on a specific chapter, a black and white photograph was printed onto the page. A group of adults, of mostly men who were wearing white lab coats, the one thing the group shared in common apart from their clothes was the sickening stares plastered on their faces. "'Peculiar Scientists...'" (Y/n) read aloud. Miss Peregrine closed her eyes for a moment before she began to explain. "Many years ago, a splinter faction emerged among our people. Disaffected Peculiars, tired of living in loops"

"(Y/n) look, you recognize that man right?" Jake pointed towards a man standing in the middle of the photograph. The girl squinted her eyes for a moment as she searched her memories. "I do...he looks like that man we nearly ran over by Grandpas house" said (Y/n). "That's what I thought too"
"Remember the bad peculiars I told you about earlier?" Enoch leaned closer to the (h/c) haired girl. (Y/n) nodded. "That man is Mister Barron, he's the leader. The one from your grandfathers letter" he whispered.

"Enoch, I would like to believe you haven't spoken to (Y/n) about these people yet. You and the others promised not to utter a word about Barron or his crew until I explained everything..." Miss Peregrine raised an eyebrow. (Y/n) and Enoch shared a quick glance.
"I wouldn't dream of it" he answered sarcastically. Miss Peregrines eyes bounced between the pair as a small smile crept upon her face. "Hmm"

"Anyways as I was saying, Mister Barron believed that by harnessing the essence of an Ymbryne's strength and powers, he and his cronies could gain immortality...and be able to live outside loops" said Miss Peregrine. "But...how can they do that? How is it even possible to take an Ymbryne's powers?" Asked Jake.

"He devised an experiment. He kidnapped an Ymbryne, not caring if she would even survive the experiment. But the fate of Barron and his group was far more horrifying still...they turned into monsters that lurked in the shadows, literally"
"But we saw Barron at our Grandpas house...he wasn't a monster?" questioned (Y/n).
