"Depends if you want me to tell you the truth or not"
"The truth of what?""What...what are you talking about? I think if I was peculiar I would have figured it out a long time ago..." (Y/n) crossed her arms over her chest as a small awkward chuckle escaped her lips. "You don't think a water fountain exploding without any warning was a normal occurrence... do you?" Enoch leaned back in his chair, his dark eyes were glued to the girl standing close beside the desk. "It was just a broken pipe!" She scoffed. "So you're saying nothing else unusual ever happened to you?" "Well apart from coming here, no...well...there was this one time I was at my psychiatrists office and there was this really annoying clock and when I focused on it...it just stopped ticking...does that count as unusual...?" the girl trailed off. "Maybe...Depends if you want me to tell you the truth or not" "The truth of what?" (Y/n)'s eyed widened in curiosity yet fearfully cautioned of his response. Enoch parted his lips to speak but he was interrupted by a sudden knock on the door.
Jake stormed inside with an infuriating scowl, he grabbed (Y/n)'s arm tightly. "What's going on?" (Y/n) broke free from his grasp, it was difficult to figure out his shift in emotion. "Nobody is telling me anything. About Grandpas letter, Mister Barron, the white eyed people...it feels too secretive to be good. We're leaving" he muttered to his sister. Frustration and annoyance was written all over his face as he spoke, it was almost impossible to ignore. It was obvious he had been in some sort of verbal battle with Miss Peregrine.
"That must feel pretty infuriating" Enoch spoke up with a small sigh. He remained seated at the desk, cleaning some jars with an old ragged cloth. "Between Miss Peregrines rules and my house mates little pack not to scare you off it's like...nobody's really telling you anything!" he smirked, looking up at the blue eyed boy. Jake's eyes were like pointy daggers, he marched up to the unbothered teen. "Then why don't you then? It's not like you want us here anyways" he spat.
Enoch's eyes bounced between the siblings for a moment. Jake's eyes were full of anger, his breath was heavy and his stance tense. (Y/n) stood timidly unsure of what to do or say, she looked at Enoch with a gleam of plead swirling in her eyes, as if she was signaling the boy to give her and her brother some sort of answers to their troubles. Enoch noticed her expression and pressed his lips tightly before standing up and walking towards the rooms door. "You're right, Jake. I can't break rules. But I know someone who can. Do you want to meet him?" The boy tilted his head slightly, gesturing for the two to follow.
The three began their walk to the far end of the hallway. A navy bedroom door awaited in-front of them. Its golden doorknobs and hinges were polished and shined as if the other children didn't enter there regularly. Enoch leaned against the wall beside the door. "Well, go in" the teen nodded towards the door. Jake narrowed his eyes and hesitantly grabbed the doorknob. "Enoch! Leave Victor alone, it really upsets Bronwyn!" Fiona rushed over to the teens, a panicked expression painted over her face. "Isn't Victor Bronwyn's brother?" Asked (Y/n). Fiona nodded without a thought and rushed to close the door fully. "Oh stop fussing Fiona" Enoch placed his hands on the girls shoulders. "Don't you think Jake should meet everyone?" "Just Jake? What about me?" The (h/c) haired girl raised an eyebrow. "How about you take (Y/n) and go play some games with the others" the brown eyed boy ruffled Fiona's hair until it became frizzy. A sarcastic smile spread across his face. The caramel haired girl grabbed (Y/n)'s arm tightly. "He's trying to frighten you away Jake. He was always jealous of Abe and now he's jealous of you. You should both come play with me instead" suggested Fiona. Enoch glared at the boy. Jake stood awkwardly between the peculiar pair who awaited his answer. "I'd uh...I'd quite like to meet Victor..." answered Jake quietly. Enoch smiled a fake smile and opened the door once again to be greeted by yet another voice.
"What are you doing in here?" A familiar fiery red haired girl walked slowly towards the door blocking their path. Olive was inside the mysterious room brushing the floor with a wooden broomstick as part of her daily chores. She noticed (y/n) in the hallway and gave her a small wave before dragging her attention back to Enoch and Jake. "Move Olive" said the brown eyed boy bluntly. "Enoch don't do this...you promised Miss Peregrine you wouldn't..." the girl worried, holding the broomstick close to her chest. "I don't understand the problem. Don't you think Jake deserves to meet Victor?"
Olives eyes filled with annoyance as she sighed. "If you're going to be like that then I don't want to be your friend anymore" her tone was laced in frustration. She pushed the teen out of the way and stormed down the hall to downstairs.
"Well, after you" Enoch nudged the blue eyed boy to enter the room."Come on (Y/n). Let's go do something more fun" Fiona stuck her tongue out at Enoch before walking away from Victors room. "Why wont he let me inside?" (Y/n) asked, still slightly offended at her lack of inclusion. "Oh don't mind him. He probably didn't want to scare you. How about we find that lovely dress you wore yesterday! You could wear it again! It suited you so well, everyone thought so!" Giggled Fiona as the pair entered Emma's room, conveniently it was just a few steps away from Victors. "Do you think Emma would let me borrow it again?" "Of course! It's just a matter of finding where she put it..." the young girl narrowed her eyes as she inspected a chest of drawers full of neatly folded clothes. "...found it!"
Meanwhile in Victors room, Jake entered its deathly silent and cold ambience. The room was painted in dark forest green walls and white rugs placed on the floor. A large wooden cupboard rested at the side of the room while in the middle of the bedroom sat a long bed. It's black metal frame and it's faint white canopy were not quite giving the room any comfort to ease the painful sight. A boy no older than Jake himself lay in the bed. His skin as pale as paper and his hair neatly brushed. Enoch walked past Jake and headed towards the cupboard, opening its drawers to search for something inside. Jake slowly approached Victor.
"Hello Victor...I'm Jake. Im sorry to disturb but..." Jake's breath was slightly shaken as he stopped beside the boy. Jake stood to stare at Victor, a sense of deja vu washed over him as he clenched his jacket pockets. The boys eyes were missing, leaving black holes in his head. Much like what his Grandpas eyes were like when him and (Y/n) had found him. Jake took a step back to take in the picture of the deceased boy.
"Yeah he can't hear you" Enoch spoke bluntly. He knelt beside Victors bed. Jake watched carefully as Enoch opened the lid of a large jar, taking out a red glossy heart. He placed it carefully through Victors white shirt and into his chest. Jake grimaced in disgust. The sound of the beating heart echoed through out the room from Victors chest, it grew louder and louder by the second. Jake's eyes widened as he leaned closer to the boy.
Suddenly Victor shot up from his bed and sat up straight. His arms and head were limp like a rag doll, he faced to turn to Jake. The blue eyed boy gasped and stumbled backwards, his eyes widened in horror. "Hello Jake I'm Victor. Do you want to know what killed me?" Victors mouth opened and closed like a puppet being controlled by its creator before falling back onto the bed lifelessly. Jake stumbled backwards, running towards the door and down the hallway. Enoch glared as he watched the terrified boy race downstairs.
Jake's breath was shaky from the fright, he stood on a step of the staircase. He couldn't get the image of Victor out of his head or his Grandpa. "Oh there you are!" A familiar voice called from by the front door. Jake looked down to be met with Miss Peregrine, the other peculiar children and (Y/n), she was chatting with Emma and was now wearing the beautiful dress she borrowed yesterday. Miss Peregrine looked down at her silver pocket watch as she clicked her heel against the floor. "Is Enoch with you? It's almost time for our daily walk" Miss Peregrine stated, opening the front door to let all the children walk outside. "I'm here" Enoch hurried down the staircase past Jake. The boy held a dark navy trench coat under his arm as he walked out the door. Jake followed afterwards, joining Emma who waited for him patiently.
As the children made their way out the front door followed closely by their head mistress, Enoch approached (Y/n), deciding to walk next to her. "Well? What happened with Victor? Did something bad happen?...Jake looks like he's seen a ghost..." the girl looked at her brother who walked next to Emma a little bit behind them. Enoch threw his coat on, placing his cold hands inside the pockets. "I'll tell you about it later when we're alone"
