"Hurry up or you'll miss it!"

An arrow of realization stuck (Y/n)'s heart as hundreds of questions flooded her mind.
"That means Jake and I are both peculiar..." she trailed off, staring at Enoch with an unexpected laugh of relief. "Exactly" "But if I've been peculiar my whole life...wouldn't I have noticed?" (Y/n) nudged her shoulder, referring to the giant rocks behind her. "Sometimes peculiarities take time to manifest...it might feel sudden, but you've probably been using your peculiarity for a while without realising...do you still believe that the water fountain that exploded was just because of a broken pipe?" A small smirk grew onto the boys face. (Y/n) rolled her eyes playfully with a silent laugh. "Fine...you were right about that. But what about Jake, what sort of peculiarity does he have...is it the same as mine?" The girl asked eagerly. Enoch narrowed his eyes as he thought of an answer for a moment. "Not quite..."
"He doesn't have the same?" (Y/n) eyes widened in surprise.

"Jake's is different... but you should concentrate on practicing the use of yours" Enoch stood up off the coat. He dusted the sand off his trousers before reaching out his hand for (Y/n). The girl gladly took it and got to her feet quickly. (Y/n) furrowed her eyes brows in confusion. "How can I practice?" She pushed her hair out of her face before the wind blew it back into her eyes. Enoch clicked his tongue and squinted his eyes before walking towards the sea. "...Enoch?" (Y/n) followed him closely. The boy picked up a small shiny scallop shell that washed up moments before their arrival. He held it gently in the palm of his hand and brought it to the (h/c) haired girl.

(Y/n) tilted her head with a puzzled expression. "What's that for?" She pointed to the seashell. "Try to move it with your mind" "It's not that easy! I lifted those rocks without even knowing I did!" the girl crossed her arms. "Yeah but think about it, you were speaking about something that was bothering you, it was the strength of your passion and thought that triggered your peculiarity. I think that if you practice you'll be able to move anything you want, whenever you please" explained the teen. (Y/n) bit the inside of her cheek harshly, she locked eyes with the boy. "Why do you care so much about what I can do?" She smiled softly with a small laugh as her eyes glistened in the sun.

"It's...interesting. And maybe a little bit entertaining" he replied with a smile, trying his best to brush off the strange and unknown yet repressed feeling that suddenly plunged harshly into his heart, no matter how hard he tried to ignore it, the strange pain seemed to sink deeper into his chest and around him like the warmth and light of the sun shining out of his control down upon him. This unusual emotion wasn't something he could avoid willingly but instead it felt like something Enoch missed dearly without realising.

The teen lifted (Y/n)'s hand then placed the fragile white shell onto her palm. The girl nodded hesitantly before staring at the seashell. "I'm only trying this once, by the way"
She held her breath and closed her eyes, concentrating on the sound of the rippling water and the swirling sound of the breeze. The peacefulness of the beach was utterly unmatched with any other. She thought of the bliss and gratitude she held deep in her heart for Enoch, who had shown her such a beautiful place. Slowly but surely she felt the small object become lighter and lighter.

(Y/n) fluttered her eyelids open to be face to face with the seashell levitating in the air and of course Enoch, who's face was as bright as (Y/n) had ever seen, it felt obscure yet somehow heart warming to see the boy stand in front of her with such a soft smile and gaze as he watched the object float in the air as if it was as light as a feather. She couldn't help but giggle at his reaction to her peculiarity. "I suppose it's easier to control than I thought...it still feels weird though" the (h/c) haired girl flicked her wrist gently and within a split second the shell had fallen down onto the soft sand. "You'll get to understand it more over time, just like the rest of us did with ours" Enoch said. It wasn't difficult to notice that something that changed in his gaze since they had arrived at the beach, (Y/n) couldn't tell exactly what it was but it felt softer and more relaxed.

(Y/n) turned her head to face the beautiful sea, glistening in the suns presence. Her hair swirled and danced in the afternoons crisp breeze and her rosy cheeks were sprinkled in grains of sand. "I don't understand...If Jake and I are able to live safety in 2016 as peculiar children, how come you and the others must live in the loop to be protected?"
Enoch brushed his fingers through his brown curly hair with a small sigh. "Not all peculiars are good. There's bad people out there, bad peculiars. They're a threat to us" "Bad peculiars?" "From what I can remember from Abe's letters to Miss Peregrine, he spent most of his life trying to hunt them down. They are a horrible group of people...they raided loops, whole homes full of peculiar children left for dead. Abe retired years later when you were born to protect you" explained the boy. (Y/n) narrowed her eyes and furrowed her eyebrows. "Are the bad peculiars you're talking about...the ones who have white eyes?"  Enoch nodded. "But if my Grandpa hunted all of them down, why would the loop still be under a threat ?"
"He never found all of them. The ones in the photograph are the handful of people he couldn't find, no matter how long he searched" Enoch said. "Is that why you didn't want me to meet Victor? Did they hurt him?" The girl frowned with a pool of worry swirling in her eyes.

Enoch placed his hands into his coat pockets as his gaze drifted to the sea. "Victor is dead. He died a long time ago" the boy narrowed his eyes, trying to ignore the guilt that had built up inside him. (Y/n)'s lips parted though she didn't dare reply to his comment, instead she looked down at her shoes with a sorrowful expression. "I should have told you... You should have met him along with Jake" Enoch said. "Did the bad peculiars...kill him?" The girl chimed in. "No. Not the people you saw letter, something else did" "something else?"
Enoch began to walk away from the girl and towards the path they had arrived from.
"Where are you going?" She caught up to the boy, walking by his side.

After a few minutes the pair had made it back to the house, the younger children were inside presumably playing board games while Olive boiled water in their mustard yellow kettle to make a pot of piping hot tea for everyone to enjoy. Enoch made his way over to the boundary red brick walls of the property. The wall was covered in branches, green ivy and pretty pale blue flowers that bloomed in random spots. The boy began to climb up the strong roots of the ivy like a ladder until he made his way to the top, he sat on the wall as his legs dangled over the other side. (Y/n) stared up at him with a confused expression.
"Hurry up or you'll miss it!" he said, looking back down at the girl.

(Y/n) began the risky climb over the green ivy's roots and strong branches just hoping she wouldn't step in the wrong place and fall to the ground. As soon as she was about halfway up Enoch grabbed her hand tightly, pulling her to the top of the wall in no time. The girl sat down next to him with a small smile. The scenery on the other side of the wall was magical. The large grassy cliff the that the house rested upon looked much more beautiful from higher ground. It was possible to view the sea crashing against the rocks far away, the many bushes of wildflowers blooming and of course Miss Peregrine slowly making her way close to the edge of the cliff with a crossbow tightly in her hands.

"Why is Miss Peregrine over there?" (Y/n) placed her hand above her eyes to block the suns rays. "It's part of Miss Peregrines daily routine. Ymbrynes tend to pick the perfect day to create a loop. But Miss Peregrine had to make this loop in a hurry" explained Enoch as the two watched her carefully from afar. "Why?" "The the Germans were about to drop a bomb on our house. September the third 1943 wasn't a great day at all... the thing that killed Victor came back"

(Y/n)'s eyes widened to his reply as she watched Miss Peregrine pick up her ticking pocket watch from her jacket. The woman swiftly placed it back into her jacket in just a moment and rose her crossbow slowly. The pair leaned closed to get a better look. The grass near the headmistress began to sway and part in different directions, a terrifying shrieking noise screeched from the swaying grass yet nothing appeared. Miss Peregrine didn't move an inch, her hands didn't tremble and her eyes were steady.

"Watch out!" A familiar voice yelled from beside Enoch and (Y/n). They turned their heads sharply to be met with Jake and Emma who were a distance away from them, watching the scene play out too. Jake's face was plastered in distress as Emma hissed at him to stay quiet.
Suddenly an arrow shot out from Miss Peregrines crossbow hitting the invisible creature right into the face. It howled and screamed in pain before plummeting to the grass with a loud thud.  (Y/n) turned to Enoch. "Invisible monsters...?"
