TW: GRIEF; PANIC ATTACK ⚠️

POV EILEEN

Lizzie opens the trailer's door, entering while showing a bag of chips in her hands. She smiles, staring at me with a conforting look in her eyes. It makes me feel calmer after what I just did.

"Hey, sweetie. Did you have a good sleep?" She giggles, sitting by me. I show her a small smile, trying to lighten the mood, and then nod. "I was hungry, so I went over and got us some food. Thought you might be hungry, too." Lizzie hands me a bag of parmesan cheetos. I feel a warm feeling creep through me. Somehow, she brought my favorite one.

"Thank you, Lizzie." I mumble, sitting in a position that seems more comfortable.

"You're welcome." She beams, smiling widely. "Are you feeling good?" Elizabeth asks me after a while, opening the food bags. I take a quick glance at her, not sure what to answer. By the end, I shrug.

"I'm fine." I mumble, not looking at her. I grab a hand of cheetos and shove them into my mouth, feeling the amazing artificial taste of it. Hearing Lizzie chuckling, I look up at her, confused.

"Go easy, hun. We have plenty of time to eat." She says with a playful smirk. I open my mouth, entering the joke and gasping playfully. That makes Lizzie laugh louder, and so do I, yet it is still quieter.

We stay quiet for a bit, only listening to the sound of us chewing. It's getting quite late right now, so the sky outside is starting to get a different color. I glance at it, sighing.

I wonder if the cops are on their way to my house, looking for my father. I gulp with that constant thought.

"Lizzie." I call her without thinking much.

"Yes, love?" She says, turning her face at me.

"I-I, uhm, do you think we can pick my siblings up from school now?" I suggest nervousl,  looking at my hands.  Maybe that's taking too much advantage of the situation.

"Sure, sweetie." She unexpectedly smiles. I stare at her, making sure she means it. "Do you want to go now?" She asks me, grabbing her car keys from her purse. I cautionary nod it.

Lizzie stands up, reaching for my hand. I look on her eyes, smiling thankfully. However, the feeling I hide is guilt. She thinks that I want to pick them up because of my mother; but, actually, it's because of my father. I want to make sure that they're with me when the cops get in the house, hopefully arresting him. I don't know what's going to happen after that, but I can't be there without my mom.

I stand up, accepting Lizzie's hand for help. She grabs mine tight, pushing me up.

As we walk to her car, I shove my hands inside my pockets, fidgeting with my fingers in an anxious way. I wait for Lizzie to get in the car so I can enter it after her, and that's how it goes.

If you're wondering, I'm still with sunglasses on. She must think I'm some kind of crazy person or too childish, but, right now, I don't care if that's her thought.

Lizzie asks me for the location of the school, so I tell her, my voice barely heardable. However, she just nods with a smile. It makes me feel better about it all.

There's some small traffic because of what time it is, but we manage to stay quiet throughout the whole ride. A comfortable quiet, yet full of thoughts.

"Here we are." Lizzie announces, unlocking the car and then leaving the car. I do the same, standing up beside it.

Walking to the school, I keep looking back, making sure Lizzie is there with me. She is always smiling attentively at me, standing there, closely.
