"I just worry about doing something I might regret later."

The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains as Beatrice slowly woke from a deep sleep. Her body felt rested, and her mind was calm, as if all the doubts and anxieties from the night before had vanished with the dawn. She turned onto her side and saw Theresa sitting on her bed, stretching. They had shared a room several times before, and although they were close, Beatrice knew that there were some things she wanted to keep to herself for now.

"Good morning," Beatrice greeted her sleepily as she sat on the edge of the bed and stretched.

"Good morning," Theresa replied with a slight smile. But there was something more in her gaze, something curious. "Did you sleep well?"

"Yeah, after I got back from my walk, I slept like a log," Beatrice admitted, trying to sound casual. She hoped to close the conversation with that, but it was clear that Theresa wasn't going to let her off the hook so easily.

"And where did you go, anyway?" Theresa asked, tilting her head to the side. "When you left last night, I didn't notice, but then I woke up and heard you talking with someone at the door. I thought I was dreaming, but now that you say you were outside... Well, it sounded like a man's voice."

Beatrice froze for a moment. She knew Theresa was perceptive and didn't miss things by chance. She thought about how she could respond without revealing too much. She didn't feel the need to hide her friendship with Thomas, but at the same time, she felt that what had happened between them was something private, something that was still developing and that she herself was still trying to understand.

"I just needed some fresh air," Beatrice answered, attempting a smile, but she felt that her response wasn't entirely convincing. "And then I ran into another athlete. He couldn't sleep either, so we took a short walk and talked a bit."

Theresa eventually nodded and got out of bed to start getting ready for training. "Alright, but let's get going. Alberto is waiting for us at the pool at seven. I don't want to be late and listen to his lectures about discipline and responsibility."

Theresa looked at Beatrice for a moment longer with a smile that clearly showed she wasn't done with the topic. Whether Beatrice wanted it or not, Theresa was too curious and perceptive to be easily dismissed. Beatrice was sure that this wouldn't be the end of the conversation. She quickly redirected her focus back to training and tried to concentrate on the day ahead. But she knew that she would have to confide in Theresa sooner or later.

Both of them began preparing to leave the room, packing their things for training in silence. Theresa occasionally glanced at Beatrice, and Beatrice felt her nerves creeping back. She kept trying to smile and maintain a casual conversation, but Theresa knew her too well to believe that everything was fine. Beatrice knew it was only a matter of time before Theresa started asking more questions.
