"Thanks for the company, Tommy."

Beatrice sat at one of the long tables in the Olympic Village dining hall, with a plate of vegetables and grilled chicken in front of her. It was a simple dinner, but that suited her just fine. She needed to keep her energy up without weighing down her stomach before tomorrow's tournament. Around her, the lively noise and laughter filled the room. Athletes from different countries shared their experiences and plans for the coming days, some laughing at jokes, others engrossed in serious discussions.
Theresa, her faithful roommate and colleague, had decided to join a group of volleyball players tonight, friends she had made during the first days of the Olympics. Beatrice didn't mind; she understood the importance of forming friendships and enjoying moments outside the training routine. Yet, she couldn't help but feel a little lonely. It was the first time since the Olympics began that she sat alone at a table—usually, swimmers or divers from other countries would join her.
She tried to focus on her meal and let her thoughts drift peacefully when suddenly she heard a familiar voice beside her. "Can I sit here?" Thomas asked, a smile on his face. He stood next to her, holding a tray full of food, looking relaxed and friendly.
"Sure, sit down," Beatrice replied with a smile, scooting over to make room for him. She was glad he joined her. Thomas settled beside her, placing his tray on the table. He began slowly serving himself rice and vegetables, while Beatrice glanced at his expression, which was, as always, calm and confident.
"How was training?" Thomas asked as he started eating. "I saw you while I had some free time. You looked really focused."
Beatrice looked up, surprised. "You were watching me?" she asked with a smile, a bit caught off guard. "I didn't notice you."
"Yeah, I watched you for a bit," Thomas admitted with a slight smile. "You guys had a pretty intense session, didn't you? Your coach didn't give you a moment to breathe."
Beatrice laughed and shrugged. "Alberto is Alberto," she said. "He always has something we need to work on. But he's right, we need to be in top form."
"I get that," Thomas nodded. "But you still looked great. I saw a few of your dives, and they were really impressive."
Beatrice blushed a little. "Thanks, Tommy. It's nice to hear that. But I have my first tournament tomorrow, and I'm a bit nervous about it."
Thomas looked at her with understanding. "It's normal to be nervous. But I believe you can do it. You're prepared, and you've got what it takes."
Beatrice smiled. "I'm doing my best. But what about you? How was your training?"
"Today was pretty easy," Thomas replied. "We focused mainly on technique. But I have another race tomorrow, so I need to get a good night's sleep and be ready."
