Ariana Ryder was well known in the West End community. She started as Christine in Phanton when she was 18 in 2005. She then did Rent as Mimi in 2007 and Sophie in Mamma Mia in 2009. Now, she was doing a job which could possibly be a major breakthrough for her.She had been asked to audition for Mimi in Rent but for the 2010 Hollywood Bowl production. She obviously accepted and right now she was throwing on her clothes extremely quickly having slept through two alarms due to jet lag.
The British actress ran out of the hotel and stopped by a a Starbucks for some coffee to wake her up.
When she rushed into the rehearsal studio, she signed in and ran up the stairs to floor 3 where she was directed to meet the cast.
When she arrived, everyone was there and they all were quick to give her a hug. Everyone was so sweet and they began settling in for the table read.
"Hi, I'm Aaron." The one cast member who hadn't got the chance to greet the girl walked up to her.
Ariana smiled up at him, "I'm Ariana, nice to meet you. You're playing Roger, right?"
"Yeah, you were Mimi in the West End, weren't you?" He asked and she nodded.
"It was my second job. But it was definitely a dream come true, I've been obsessed with Rent since I was 14." She laughed slightly as they both sat down at the table.
Their names were all set out at the place they were meant to sit at, meaning Ariana and Aaron were sat together due to the fact they were playing love interests. The way it was set out went Neil on one table with the producers and choreographer and opposite was the table where the cast sat.
"Right, thank you so much guys for doing this. I'm so excited to get this show going, I mean, it's such a brilliant show and you are all such talented actors, I think this will be a hit." Neil started out, "So, without further ado, let's start. I'll read stage directions."
And that's where it began. The cast got through all of act one pretty smoothly and they planned to read act 2 tomorrow, then they would start working on the songs.
Right before Ariana left, she heard Aaron call out her name.
Turning around, she found he was right behind her, "I just wanted to say, we're all gonna find somewhere to eat tonight so we can spend some time together, do you wanna come?"
"Sure, I'd love to!" She answered, "Do you have anywhere in mind?"
"Not yet, we're trying to work it out now." Aaron told her, "We're not planning anything fancy though."
"How about the hotel? The restaurant there seemed nice and that way when we're done we don't have a long walk back or have to get cabs?" Ariana suggested and Aaron nodded.
"Good point. Come on, let's ask the others." Aaron dragged the girl over to their fellow cast members and it didn't take much convincing.
So they all gathered round a table in the restaurant, the conversation flowing as they looked at their menus.
Aaron sat beside Ariana as he bent down so she could hear him over all the noise, "What are you having?"
"I was thinking about just getting some fries." She looked up, placing her menu down, but she didn't miss the frown on Aaron's face.
"That's all?" He asked her.
"Yeah, the jet lag's making me feel kinda sick, so I don't have much of an appetite." She answered. It was true, but it didn't stop Aaron from worrying.
The food came very quickly after everyone ordered and their current topic of conversation was celebrity crushes.
"Ari, who're some of your celeb crushes?" Nicole asked from her seat, directly across from the girl.
Ariana laughed and answered, "Wow, buckle in for the long list, I guess." The group laughed as she continued, "Um, I'll say Christian Bale because I had an obsession with him as Jack Kelly in Newsies."
"That's fair enough." Nicole laughed alongside Ariana.
"Okay, new question. What show got everyone into musicals?" Skylar asked the group who all paused to think for a little bit.
"I think for me, the first musical I saw was Les Mis and I was hooked, but actually Wicked was what made me realise I wanted to do this as a living." Ariana answered, "I had never been to New York and we were palnning a family holiday there in 2003. The first thing I wanted to do was go see a broadway musical and when we were looking at tickets, we came across Wicked and decided to go there. I saw Kristin Chenoweth playing Glinda and I realised that I wanted to do that. I came out feeling so many different emotions, but one of those was that I wanted to make people feel the same way I did. I ended up meeting her and she was the sweetest and told me to keep going with my dream so that was a definite confident boost."
"That's incredible. I think mine would be Phantom of the Opera. It's such a powerful show with such beautiful songs and I'm just always blown away every time I see it." Tracy said from beside Nicole and the rest of the night just continued with the questions getting even more stupid each time.
That was until they called it a night and everyone headed up to bed.
Just before Ariana disappeared into her room, Aaron called out behind her. She stopped and turned to face him when he asked, "Would you maybe wanna get some coffee together before rehearsals tomorrow? I think it'd be nice to spend some time together."
Ariana smiled at him, "Of course, pick me up at 7?"
"Yeah, see you then." Aaron chuckled Ari entered her room.
The smile on his face grew at the thought of her.
