𝐃: Hi! I'm Danielle, one of the founders of Mellonia and I'll be the one taking your winner's interview. Okay! Before we start, congratulations on winning the Best Epilogue category!
𝐖: Ok, um... Hi! My name is Winner. Thanks for the congratulations, too!
𝐃: Damn, that's a very cool name to have! And you're welcome :) So did you expect to win? How did you feel when the results came out?
𝐖: Thanks! 😁 And, no. I actually was not expecting to win at all. The highest I was expecting was 3rd or 4th place tbh. I actually thought there was a mistake somewhere when the results came out. I felt very surprised. I went to get my glasses and put them on to make sure that what I was seeing was correct. That's how surprised I was.
𝐃: Ahaha I get it but I'm glad we could give you that pleasant surprise! In your opinion, though, what do you think makes a good epilogue? How did you incorporate it into the writing of your own epilogue?
𝐖: Yeah 😁 And in my opinion, I think a good epilogue is one that gives proper closure to a book and it's characters, and, if there's going to be a sequel after it, it should carve a proper path for the sequel to take place. Show the events that will lead to the second book after it, while trying to give closure to the events of the first book as well. When I was writing my own epilogue, I tried my best to make it seem like the reader was saying goodbye to the book and it's characters-a very emotional goodbye. Like you're leaving a loved one. I also tried to insert the moral of the story into the epilogue. I feel like you should always have something to learn from a good book. Idk if you get what I'm trying to say. I don't really know what to describe what's on my mind properly.
𝐃: Don't worry, I do get what you're trying to say :) but as a writer, how do you plan your stories? Or do you just go with the flow? How did you come up with the plot and ending? Did you have any inspiration?
𝐖: I usually go with the flow. Though, I have the basic outline of what the story is going to be about and a rough sketch on how it's going to end, I tend to change and tweak the story as I go. Like, if a character is going to die in the end, I can change the way they die, but the ending is already set. So I just came up with most of the plot as I was writing.
Inspiration? Um... I dunno. I really like the paranormal genre, shifters and vamps in particular, and I get inspiration from other paranormal stories I've read. I like to twist and turn cliche tropes, bend it to my own style, try to make it different, yet still have that familiar feel to it.𝐃: Ooo I'm kind of like that too haha. The planning and going with the flow part, I mean. Twisting and adding your own touch to cliche tropes is quite impressive. And to keep the gist of it similar too! Have you ever received compliments or hate on doing this? How did you deal with it?
𝐖: Haha, good to know I'm not the only one that does that. I tried to plan out the book I'm writing currently, but it didn't work out. I went completely off track from the original plan, so now I'm not even gonna bother trying with the next one and I'll just do as the spirit leads.
I've received a few little compliments, but it's usually just based on the chapter that the reader just read. Most of the people that read y book don't comment, so I can't really know how they feel about it
And hate? No. A few criticism comments from review books, but never outright complete hate. There were a few reviewers that said the storyline lacks originality and it's the same thing they've seen everywhere else, but they only read the first 5 chapters, so I get their criticism. Things don't usually start to get twisted in my books until the 6th or even 10th chapter, so that's understandable. And some people just don't like cliches, and that's ok. Everyone has their own taste, I guess.𝐃: It's good that people aren't pushy about theit preferences! Seems like society has a bit more hope Are there any authors that you look up to on Wattpad or in real life? Any go to stories or series?
𝐖: Yes! Definitely. There's this one book that started my love for werewolves. "Across Enemy lines" by HayHalsey on wattpad. It was the first werewolf story I ever read anywhere, when I was 11 I think (I'm 15 now).
Now there's a particular paranormal author that I look up to, and she's also on wattpad. AMLKoski. I absolutely love her forgotten series, and the story I'm writing now, "Black fire", is slightly inspired by her story" A Cold Wind Blows".𝐃: Nice!! Well, for better or for worse, we are most easily influenced we're young Before we end off, what do you think about our awards? What are some areas we could improve in?
𝐖: The awards overall were ok. The announcement of winners were a little messy at first, but that's understandable with 2 different communities trying to work together I guess
𝐃: Thank you for your feedback? Yeah things were a bit messy at first, but now it's smoother. Do you have anything else to add?
𝐖: Nah, not really
𝐃: Okay! Thank you so much for your time! And thank you for participating once again!
𝐖: You're welcome!
