"Kaitlyn? Do you know why you're here today?" My therapist, Dr. Alex Rivera, asked me. I stared out the window as I watched some kids play outside across the street. "Do you know what this place is?" I took a glance at my hospital wristband and didn't say anything. "You're at the Northwood Psychiatric Hospital. I was brought here by Director Fury to help you. He's concerned about you. We all are. Do you remember what you did?"
I looked away from the window and sat cross-legged on the couch. I remember everything that happened. Ever since New York, I have been having nightmares and panic attacks, and because of that, I haven't been able to get any sleep. About five days ago, I was experiencing flashbacks of what happened. I couldn't remember where I was and tried to escape. Some S.H.I.E.L.D. agents attempted to stop me, but I knocked them out. When I ran outside, I didn't notice the car coming toward me, and it hit me, knocking me unconscious.
"I got hit by a car," I replied.
"That's right. You were frantic. Several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents tried to restrain you." Dr. Rivera said.
"I was trying to get away," I said.
"Get away from what?" Dr. Rivera asked.
"The monsters," I said.
"Monsters? Do you mean the aliens?"
I nod my head.
"I don't understand. I thought the Avengers stopped them." Dr. Rivera said.
"They did, but..."
"But what?"
"Forget it. You wouldn't understand." I said.
"Try me. I'm here to listen." Dr. Rivera said.
"Sometimes I still see them. Whether I'm awake or asleep, they're always there. And other times, I see..."
"See what? It's okay you can tell me." Dr. Rivera said.
"Thor's brother," I said.
"Loki."
"Please, don't say his name," I said.
"Sorry. I know what you went through must've been awful. Coming face to face with those gods and monsters. I can't imagine what you must be feeling." Dr. Rivera said. "But you're here now. You're safe."
"What if they come back?" I asked.
"I can assure you, Kaitlyn, they won't be coming back." Dr. Rivera said. "Your friend Tony Stark made sure that didn't happen."
The door to Dr. Rivera's office opens, and a young, handsome hospital attendant in his early thirties enters. His name is Joseph Pearce. Joseph is carrying a silver plate with my various medicines on it. "Hello, Kaitlyn. It's time for you to take your medicine."
I took the pills from the plate and swallowed them with some water. "Great job. I'll come by to check on you later." Joseph said.
"Thank you, Joseph." Dr. Rivera smiled. Joseph takes the tray and leaves the room. "Okay, we are almost finished. There are a few questions I want to ask you. What can you tell me about Loki?"
Instantly, I started to feel anxious at the mention of Loki's name. Whenever someone says New York or, you know who, I start hyperventilating. I was hoping to avoid this conversation with Dr. Rivera, but I guess I'm not getting out of this one, am I?
I didn't say anything and rested my chin on my knees. "Can you tell me what happened during the Battle of New York? What do you remember?"
Again, I didn't respond and looked out the window. "Kaitlyn, I know this a scary thing to talk about, but you need to understand it's not good to keep things bottled up. If you don't open up to someone, it can make you sick." Dr. Rivera explained. "How about this? Tell me about your friends. The Avengers. What are they like?"
"They're kind. Brave. Smart. Strong. They argue like siblings, but when it comes down to it, they put their differences aside and do what's right." I said.
"And what about Thor? I know you and him have formed a close bond." Dr. Rivera said.
"Yes, he saved me from..." I stopped myself mid-sentence when I realized what I was about to say.
"He saved you from his brother." Dr. Rivera said.
"Yes. I was under a spell, and Thor was the one who snapped me out of it." I said.
"What did it feel like while you were under?" Dr. Rivera asked.
"I just felt calm. Like a sense of peace had washed over me." I told her.
"Do you remember anything that happened?" Dr. Rivera asked.
"Bits and pieces. There's a lot that I have forgotten about." I said. "It's my fault what happened."
"No, it's not your fault."
"Yes, it is. Everything that happened was because of me!" I exclaimed.
"It wasn't you. You may have opened the portal, but you weren't in control. You were under a spell." Dr. Rivera said.
"Are we done here?" I asked, feeling a little irritated.
"No. There are a few more things I want to go over with you." Dr. Rivera said. "I want you to think back on the night S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters was destroyed. The night Loki first arrived on Earth."
Hearing Loki's name made me shudder. I really didn't want to have this conversation with Dr. Rivera and wanted to be back in my room, listening to music on my iPod. I tried my best to block any thoughts of Loki from my mind, but I started to have flashbacks of the night S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters was destroyed, the night when my world got turned upside down.

A/N: Hello, readers! Welcome to the new and improved Avenger's book. For those of you who have stuck with me from the beginning, you may have noticed that my prologue for this story is much different. As I mentioned before there will be some changes in some of my books but a lot of the plot and my story for Kaitlyn Summers will still pretty much be the same. I am however changing Kaitlyn's age from thirteen to ten years old because Millie Bobby Brown would have been close to that age in 2012 if she were to appear in the movies.
I hope you guys will like this new version of my story!
Thanks again and happy reading 😊
