── you stared up at the ship's ceiling, allowing the gentle waves to let your body rock on the wooden bed. the only sounds that could be heard, aside from the water impacting the boat and the horrible screeching of seagulls, was the sound of your two older brothers discussing their newest plan to capture the night fury they had been so fixated on.

you weren't sure as to why they cared so much about this one specific dragon - you figured it would just get them a lot of gold. most of the time the dragon hunters plans weren't well thought out. usually, it was head-in. they'd hunt for dragons in the wild, get as many as possible, and go home. but stealing a dragon that had already been domesticated would be different.

you knew your brothers had a few run-ins with the self-proclaimed 'dragon riders'. this meant they could never trust ryker nor viggo. but, what your brothers realized: they didn't know your face. it was perfect in their minds, who would ever suspect a teenage girl to be a dragon hunter? all they had to do was create a story, make up a character - to act as if [name] grimborn didn't exist.

it was only a matter of time before you would hear the two men hum in agreement, shifting their bodies to knock on your door.

"...come in," you sighed.

"nancy mulligan," viggo stated, leaving you rather lost.

"and who would that be..?" you questioned, sitting up properly.

"you, of course," ryker answered.

"i've never even heard of the name mulligan before," you crossed your arms. "how are they supposed to believe me if i have a phony last name like that?"

"don't act like we haven't thought this out, [name]," viggo sighed. "it's fool proof."

you gave him a small nod, signalling him to continue on.

"our people have been raided the lands southwest of here, yeah? close to the vinland."

"yeah.. i remember you mentioning that some of our troops went to check out the dragon situation down there, right?"

"that's right," he sat on the foot of the bed. "so, miss nancy was held prisoner - on bjorn's ship, remember that. two weeks from today we're gonna sail out their little sea stack, you'll swim to the land, maybe add a few tears into your dress for good measure and play the damsel in distress act when one of them finds you," your brother explains.

"woah woah woah, slow down," you held up your hands. "why do i have to swim? and why do i have to be from the south west? why can't we just say i'm from.. i dunno.. drengrv or something, and why do i need to change my whole name? wouldn't [name] clouston work just fine? they don't know who i am."

"we aren't risking a thing, [name]. it's risky enough as is, we can't have any ties looped back to the dragon hunters whatsoever," viggo explains.

"well.. aside from the kidnapping story," ryker adds.

"you're a good liar, you've been a good liar since you were a little girl - believe me, i would know. look, take as long as you need, as long as they stay distracted, you stick to the story, you have complete free reign. all you need to do is gain their trust and get us the information we need, since attacking head on obviously doesn't seem to work.." viggo sighed.

"alright then.. what's in it for me?" you asked. "i don't care about all this dragon stuff. i mean, the most i've ever done is feed the ones you guys have captured. the night fury, the dragon.. eyeball thing, they have no value to me."

"fine, fine.. a quarter of however much gold we get at the end of this," viggo offered.

"a quarter, really?" you scoffed. "i'm the one that's gonna be living amongst them for gods know how long, i'm the one risking being held prisoner. no, no.. i want half. half the total value."

viggo groaned, rubbing his face with his hands out of frustration.

"look, lets just see how much we get first, okay? then i'll do the math, but.. you'll get the larger cut."

you thought about it for a moment.

"fine, deal."
