Felix's warning came too late. As I danced with the prince, a flicker in my transmitter caught his attention. He frowned, his hand tightening on mine.
"Is something wrong?" I asked, trying to keep the panic out of my voice.
"Your image... it’s flickering."
My heart sank. "I need to go."
"No, wait—"
Before he could stop me, I pulled away, slipping through the crowd. The guards noticed, their eyes narrowing in suspicion. I had to get out and fast.
Felix's voice crackled in my earpiece. "Ella, your transmitter is failing. You need to get out of there now."
"I'm trying," I whispered, weaving through the throngs of people.
"Head for the west exit. I've hacked the security systems."
I nodded, my breath coming in short, panicked gasps. The west exit was my only hope. I moved as quickly as I could, the prince's voice calling after me, but I couldn't afford to stop. The guards were closing in, their shouts echoing off the cold walls.
My heart pounded in my chest as I sprinted towards the exit. Felix's guidance was my lifeline, his voice steady and calm despite the chaos. "Turn left at the next corridor. There's a service door that leads outside."
I followed his instructions, my pulse racing. The service door loomed ahead, and with a final burst of energy, I pushed it open and stumbled into the night. The cold air hit me like a slap, but I didn't stop. I kept running, my mind focused on one thing: survival.
