Giyuu pov:
The dawn light filtered softly through the thin walls of the Wisteria House, casting faint patterns on the futon where Giyuu and Obanai lay. Despite the uncomfortable proximity of their shared resting space, the warmth of the futon had been a welcome relief from the cold of the previous night.
Giyuu woke early, as was his habit, and lay still for a moment, listening to the gentle sounds of the house coming to life. The muffled clinking of dishes and the soft murmurs of the elderly woman’s morning routine were distant but comforting. He could feel Obanai’s presence beside him, still asleep.
He rolled quietly onto his side, careful not to disturb Obanai, who was facing away from him. Giyuu tried to ignore the stiffness in his limbs from the cramped sleeping arrangements, focusing instead on the mission ahead. The recent battle and their ongoing quest weighed heavily on his mind, but the discomfort of the night was a small price to pay for the much-needed rest.
As he lay there, Giyuu couldn’t help but think about the subtle changes in his interactions with Obanai. It was strange.
He glanced over at Obanai, noting the way the other Hashira’s features softened in sleep, his usual scowl replaced by an expression of calm.
As he carefully moved to get up, Obanai stirred, his eyes fluttering open. For a few moments, they simply stared at each other, the silence between them heavy with unspoken thoughts.
They both rose from the futon, the cramped space now a distant discomfort as they prepared for the day. Giyuu noticed that Obanai was particularly quiet, his usual brusqueness subdued. Perhaps the shared experience of the night had created a temporary truce, even if only for a moment.
The elderly woman soon appeared with a simple breakfast of rice and miso soup. She served them with a smile, her kindness a stark contrast to the tension between the two men. As they ate, Giyuu remained silent, his mind preoccupied with their mission. Obanai, however, seemed unusually distracted, his gaze often drifting towards Giyuu.
After breakfast, the woman offered them more guidance about the region they were heading into, providing valuable information that might help them with their mission.
With the morning’s preparations complete, the two Hashira set out once again, the Wisteria House now a comforting memory of warmth and hospitality. The journey ahead was fraught with uncertainty, but the brief respite had been a welcome relief.
As they walked in silence, Giyuu’s thoughts returned to the night they had shared. The discomfort of their close quarters was still fresh in his mind, but so was the faint sense of understanding that had started to emerge. It was a small step, but one that hinted at the possibility of something more complex between
Giyuu glanced sideways at Obanai, who was focused on the path ahead. The silence between them was less charged, more of a quiet acceptance of their shared burden. It was a small change, but it was there, and Giyuu found himself pondering its significance.
As they continued on their journey, the landscape began to change, the dense forest giving way to more open terrain. The transition from the safety of the Wisteria House to the uncertain paths ahead mirrored the gradual shift in their relationship an evolving dynamic that, while still fraught with tension, hinted at the possibility of something more profound.
The day wore on, and the two Hashira pressed forward, their unspoken understanding a subtle yet significant change. Though they were far from resolved in their feelings towards each other, the experience of the night had introduced a new layer to their interactions a slow, tentative beginning of something that neither of them fully understood.
