Obanai pov:
Daylight poured through the shadows of trees as Obanai and Giyuu made their way back to their residence. The path was familiar, but the journey felt different. Each step seemed heavier, weighed down by a growing confusion within Obanai.
The day was marked by routine demon encounters. These were lesser demons, not the formidable adversaries that had previously occupied their missions. They dispatched each threat with practiced ease, their movements synchronized despite their often tense interactions. The battle was swift, but the aftermath left Obanai in a state of uneasy contemplation.
As they continued on their way, Obanai’s thoughts drifted to the encounter in the village. Giyuu’s unexpected kindness had stirred something in him—a warmth that was both unfamiliar and unsettling. He tried to push the thoughts away, focusing instead on the task at hand, but his mind kept circling back to the earlier interaction.
When he thought about Giyuu, a familiar irritation would flare up. The aloof, distant nature of the Water Hashira was something Obanai had always found infuriating. Yet, there was also something disquieting about the way Giyuu’s presence affected him now. It was a strange contrast to the warmth he felt whenever he thought about Kanroji, the Love Hashira.
Obanai tried to clear his mind by focusing on the task at hand. They had just finished off a particularly troublesome demon with minimal effort. As Giyuu inspected the area, Obanai found himself standing a few paces away, struggling to reconcile his emotions.
The warmth he felt around Kanroji was different—a comforting, almost soothing presence that had always been a welcome part of his interactions with her. Yet, this warmth with Giyuu was confusing. It was not the same kind of comfort, but something more intense, more complicated. The irritation he felt toward Giyuu was tinged with an undercurrent of something softer, something he couldn’t quite place.
Obanai glanced at Giyuu, who was now approaching him with a nod. The sight of Giyuu’s calm, composed demeanor only seemed to deepen Obanai’s conflicted feelings. The combination of irritation and warmth created a tumultuous mix that he found difficult to navigate.
“Ready to move on?” Giyuu’s voice cut through his thoughts, neutral and detached as always.
Obanai nodded, trying to maintain his usual cold expresion. “Yes, let’s keep going.”
As they continued their journey, Obanai’s mind was occupied by the duality of his emotions. His irritation toward Giyuu was a stark contrast to the warmth that occasionally flickered when he was around him. It was a complex and unsettling mix that made him question his feelings and the nature of their relationship.
By the end of the day, as they made camp and prepared for the night, Obanai found himself lost in thought. The warmth from their village encounter was a strange...
A subtle reminder of the shifting dynamics between them. He had hoped the distance of their journey would provide clarity, but instead, it had only deepened his confusion. As he lay down for the night, Obanai tried to focus on the mission and the task ahead. Yet, his thoughts inevitably drifted back to Giyuu, the conflicting emotions that stirred within him, and the warmth that was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
