Chapter 12: The Deadly Pursuit

Donghyuk’s POV
The dimly lit room felt suffocating, the air thick with the weight of our scheming. My eyes scanned the papers strewn across the table—maps, diagrams, and notes detailing the weaknesses of the Hwang family’s empire. But today, my focus was singular, and my frustration simmered beneath the surface.
“Hyunjin is the key,” I began, my voice cold and calculated. “His death will send the Hwangs into chaos. Without him, the family business will crumble, and our family will finally get the revenge we deserve.”
Changbin, my brother, sat across from me, his expression unreadable as he listened. I continued, laying out my plan. “But it’s not just about killing Hyunjin. It’s about dismantling everything they’ve built. If we succeed, the Hwang family will be ruined. We can even push for an arrangement between you and Eliza. With Hyunjin out of the way, she’ll need protection, and marrying into our family would solidify our control over both empires.”
Changbin’s eyes flickered with something—surprise, perhaps, or maybe doubt—but he quickly masked it. I could see that he was taken aback by the ruthlessness of the plan. I leaned in, my voice dropping to a near-whisper. “And there’s more. Our new ally… they’ll be instrumental in making sure this goes off without a hitch. They’re in the perfect position to help us. All we need to do is play our cards right.”
My words hung in the air and I could feel the tension in the room rise. Changbin’s silence was unsettling, but I could tell he was weighing the possibilities. He was always more cautious, more calculated than I was, but I knew he’d see the value in my plan.

Changbin’s POV
As Donghyuk spoke, I felt a chill run down my spine. His words were sharp, slicing through the air like a blade. The depth of his manipulative nature was on full display, and though I’d always known my brother was driven, this was something different.
Hyunjin’s death… an arranged marriage with Eliza… the complete destruction of the Hwang family. It was all so cold, so clinical. But then, wasn’t that what we needed? If we were going to survive in this ruthless world, we had to be just as ruthless.
Still, as I listened to Donghyuk, I couldn’t shake the small, nagging feeling of doubt. Was this really the right path? But then I reminded myself of our family, of the sacrifices we’d made and the blood that had been spilled. For them, I would do anything. Even if it meant killing Hyunjin and manipulating Eliza.
“If it’s for our family,” I said finally, my voice firm, “then I’m with you. We’ll carry out this plan, and we’ll make sure the Hwangs pay for everything they’ve done.”
I could see the approval in Donghyuk’s eyes, and I knew I’d made the right choice. The time for doubt was over. Now, all that remained was the execution of our plan.
At Kim's Residence
Y/N’s POV
The air in the estate felt thick with tension as we gathered to discuss our next move. The mysterious note we’d received the night before had left everyone on edge. Trust was a rare commodity now, and I could feel the cracks in our unity growing wider with each passing hour.
I glanced around the room, taking in the faces of the others. Hyunjin’s jaw was set in a hard line, his eyes filled with worry for Eliza. Seungmin was focused, but there was a darkness in his gaze that hadn’t been there before. And then there was Felix, who stood slightly apart from the rest of us, his expression unreadable.
