It had been almost half an hour since you had started your staring contest with the ceiling. Not that you felt too enthusiastic about it, but what could you do instead when you couldn't make yourself fall asleep? But it wasn't like that you didn't feel sleepy. Your eyelids were begging you to get them shut. However, no matter how many times you had tried that, the thumping bass from your neighbour's music had successfully managed to keep you not just awake – but wide awake.
Usually, the music was this loud. But it also stopped after a bit of time. However, for some reason, today – out of all the other days – they had decided to go on with their rock 'n roll until the eardrums of all the people of this neighborhood burst.
Actually, you wouldn't have minded the torture if this was any other day. Not everyday goes by with you staying awake all night doing assignments for university after all. And aside from that, it wasn't everyday you mistook your assignment's deadline to be next week when it was actually the next day. To give more context, some guy in the group chat had informed you about the set date for assignment submission. And you believed him. Like a fool. Despite knowing that he had a habit of writing drunk texts often in the discussion forum.
Though at first you felt pathetic – not for being a careless slacker about your studies – but for believing a guy like him, you still felt relieved when you found out that you weren't the only potato in the sack. Most of your friends in the group chat had trusted his message too. And as a result, they got the reward of being in the same sinking boat, just as you.
You huffed out a sigh at the irksome thoughts. Turning your head towards the table clock, you read the time.
It was ten in the morning, and you needed to get some sleep. Fast. Not that you were trying to break the guinness record for the fastest sleeper in the world, you just needed to replenish yourself before you could start working again on that darn assignment. It had at least thirty more pages requiring your attention before you could hope to reach the ending.
True that the assignment was a reliable source of headache, but the deathcore song being repeatedly played by your neighbour was – simply put – the cherry on top. The song sounded neverending, with the same lines and lyrics playing over and over again. You got that there were some people who thought these kinds of songs were cool, but what you didn't get was the level of patience of those lunatics who could endure the same raspy voice screaming the same inscrutable lines like a freak nonstop. Maybe "endure" wasn't the right word for this, they actually "enjoy" making their ears bleed. Even the good songs – which were not even close to being as harsh-sounding as deathcores – got boring after only a couple of repeats.
"No... This is just straight, unhinged madness," you uttered as you finally got up from bed. You could feel the swelled up rage inside you getting out of hand, and you needed to do something about the booming music to keep that nasty anger in check. Because – for obvious reasons – you didn't want to turn into any Hulk at the moment.
So to release a tiny bit of anger, you promptly dropped your feet to the ground and yeeted your pillow onto the floor.
The poor pillow would be crying right now if it was alive, but your pillow's hypothetical feelings were far from you mind as of now. Instead, all you could think about was how to decimate someone's family lineage and stop it from being further expanded on the earth. After all, a few less lunatics on earth shouldn't do much harm to the nature.
Like an angry bull, you briskly dashed out from your apartment, not even bothering to change from your baggy shirt and trousers. These clothes pretty much made you look like a potato. But at this point, you couldn't care less about how you looked or what you resembled. All you wanted right now was for the damn music to stop and have some nice, peaceful sleep.
