A few days had passed by, but you still couldn't recover from the shock you got that day. You wanted to go back to your neighbours' and ask them what that was all about. But the only thing that got in between was the fact that they hadn't been home.
This was all strange. It had only been a few weeks since you moved into this apartment from your old place. And within these past weeks, you had seen both of them getting in and out from the building next to yours. You knew it was some sort of a shop, and that they were the ones running it, but you never could have imagined the relationship they had between themselves. It was shocking to think they could run a business together when they hated each other so much.
In any case, at this point, your mind was pretty much obsessed with various thoughts about your neighbours. It was the only thing you could think about throughout your days. In fact, it had gotten to the degree where you didn't even care about the late penalty you got in your course for failing to submit your assignment in due time. You weren't even fazed when your friends didn't believe you, thinking there was something wrong with you when in reality, you told them the truth. Because, now, all you needed were answers, answers to the questions that had arised within your mind.
You were still thinking about the gunshots as you went in front of the window, your eyes wandering to the opposite building where your neighbours lived. The window facing yours had been covered with curtains for the past few days. As you wondered when they would be coming back, those curtains suddenly flung to the side, revealing a half-naked, silver haired man right behind.
That sudden course of movement almost caused you a heart attack. You gasped and fell backwards, your butt landing on the floor with a harsh thud. For the last few days, whenever your eyes kept roaming, you always found yourself staring at your neighbour's window. And with full certainty, you expected to be able to pull that off in peace this time too. But who knew that they had come back home from their little excursion so soon.
Though your buttcheeks were hurting, you still couldn't wait for long before you found yourself changing into the floral, V-neck summer dress you bought last week. After all, the time to finally get your hands on the truth had come, and you couldn't let a single second to go and get to waste. However, before heading out, you had to take a little trip to your kitchen. You couldn't just visit someone's house without having any good reason to do so. You needed to show that you were a person who cared a lot about her neighbours. So you opened the kitchen cabinet, and took out a jar filled with freshly homemade cookies.
Baking was one thing you learned to be good at, for which you often made cookies or cakes for you to enjoy whenever you craved something sweet. And coincidentally, today was one of those days, and now you had the perfect excuse to go and see your neighbours.
You walked with confidence as you held a small bag of cookies in your hand, the opening of the bag tied with a cute purple ribbon. As your feet stopped in front of their door, you took a deep breath, then held up your hand to knock on the wooden surface.
Standing on the same place as that day reminded you again of what had happened. Despite how scared you had felt at the time, in contrary to that, you felt rather relaxed and unruffled this time.
Your knuckles gently knocked three times on the door. You knew your neighbours were bad at answering doors, and you were ready to push the door without hesitation if they took more than a minute to reply. But to your surprise, a voice came from the inside in just a moment, informing, "The door's open, let yourself in."
You were a bit amazed as the familiar voice reached your ears. To actually get a response - that was totally out of your expectation. Nevertheless, you did as you were told and let your beautiful self inside the building.
