A day later...

As the doctor continued his assessment, his expression suddenly shifted, and a solemn tone crept into his voice.

My heart sank as I realized that the news he was about to deliver was not the reassuring guidance I had anticipated.

"Nicole, I'm afraid there's something else we need to discuss," the doctor said, his brow furrowed with concern. "The severity of your photophobia and the strain on your eyes is quite significant. If left untreated, it could potentially lead to more serious complications, including permanent vision loss."

His words hit me like a crushing blow, and I felt the air escape my lungs. The prospect of going blind was a terrifying thought, one that I had never truly considered.

Suddenly, the seemingly innocuous incident at the party took on a much graver significance.

"Permanent vision loss?" I echoed, my voice trembling. "But how? I thought you said there were treatments available."

The doctor nodded solemnly. "There are treatment options, but they require diligence and a commitment to managing this condition. Neglecting the proper care could have dire consequences."

As he explained the steps I would need to take, including regular eye drops, specialized glasses, and limiting exposure to bright lights, I felt an overwhelming sense of dread wash over me.

The thought of having to constantly monitor and accommodate this issue was daunting, and I couldn't help but wonder how it would impact my life going forward.

As the gravity of the doctor's warning sank in, I knew I needed to take immediate action. "Doctor, I want to schedule a laser appointment as soon as possible," I said, determination filling my voice. "I can't risk letting this deteriorate any further. Whatever it takes, I need to get this taken care of."

The doctor nodded, a hint of relief visible in his expression. "I'm glad to hear you're taking this so seriously, Nicole. Laser treatment is often the most effective way to address severe cases of yours." He paused to check his schedule. "We have an opening in two weeks. Does that work for you?"

Two weeks felt like an eternity, but I knew rushing the process could be detrimental. "Two weeks?" I repeated, trying to keep the anxiety out of my voice. "I suppose that's the soonest you can accommodate me?"

"I understand your urgency, Nicole, but the laser treatment requires some careful planning and preparation," the doctor explained calmly. "This will give us time to ensure everything is in order and that you're fully ready for the procedure."

Reluctantly, I nodded. "Alright, then. Let's schedule it for two weeks from now. I'll make sure to clear my schedule and do whatever I need to do to prepare."

The doctor offered a reassuring smile. "Excellent. I'm confident that this course of action will address the root of the issue and prevent any further damage to your eyesight. Just be sure to follow all the pre-operative instructions, and I'll see you in two weeks."

As I left the office, a mix of emotions swirled within me.
