As Lulu and I entered the entrance of my family's mansion, I couldn't help but notice the disapproving glares the maids were directing towards him.
I could sense their disdain and suspicion, no doubt fueled by preconceptions about his status and our relationship.
Summoning my resolve, I turned to the staff and spoke in a firm, authoritative tone. "That's enough. Back to your duties, all of you. Mind your own damn business," I commanded, making it clear that I would not tolerate their blatant disrespect.
The maids, taken aback by my assertiveness, quickly averted their gaze and scurried off, presumably to resume their tasks.
I let out a small sigh, grateful that I had been able to swiftly diffuse the tense situation.
Turning to Lulu, I could see the apprehension etched on his face. "Lulu, are you sure you're ready for this?" I asked, my voice laced with concern. "We can wait, if you need more time to prepare."
Lulu met my gaze with unwavering determination. "Yes, Nicole, I'm ready," he said, his voice steady and resolute. "I want to be here for you, no matter what. Your parents need to know what's going on, and I'm not going to let you face them alone."
As soon as I uttered the words about my eyes, my father's expression shifted from concern to one of sheer anger.
His eyes narrowed, and his face flushed with an intense rage I had rarely seen before.
"What's going on here? And why this scumbag with you?!" my father demanded, his finger pointing accusingly at Lulu.
Lulu, ever the picture of composure, remained steady by my side, refusing to back down under my father's withering glare.
"Dad, please, let me explain," I pleaded, my voice trembling. "Lulu is here because... because he's been supporting me through this. I needed him here with me."
But my father was having none of it. "Supporting you?" he spat, his words dripping with disdain. "This boy is nothing but trouble, Nicole. I won't have him in my house, corrupting you with his nonsense!"
He then turned his attention to Lulu, his finger jabbing harshly towards him. "And you, boy, what the hell are you doing here? You think you can just waltz into my family's affairs and expect us to welcome you with open arms? Get the hell out of my house before I throw you out!"
I took a deep breath and steeled my nerves, knowing that the next few moments would be crucial.
Keeping a firm grip on Lulu's hand, I turned to face my parents, their expressions a mixture of shock and anger.
"Mom, Dad, Lulu is here with me because... because we're in a relationship," I said, my voice surprisingly steady despite the turmoil swirling within me.
The words seemed to hit my father like a physical blow.
His face contorted with fury, and in a sudden outburst, he lashed out, sweeping a decorative vase off a nearby table with a violent swing of his arm.
The vase shattered against the wall, the sound echoing through the room like a thunderclap.
"You've ruined everything!" he bellowed, his words dripping with a mixture of rage and disappointment. "All our plans, all the alliances we've been building for the future generation – you've wasted them all with your selfish, spoiled attitude!"
I flinched at the raw emotion in his words, but I refused to back down. "Dad, please, try to understand. This isn't about any alliance or future plans. This is about my happiness, and Lulu makes me happy. Isn't that what matters most?"
