THIRD POV
In an opulent restaurant, the sound of clinking glasses and muffled conversation filled the air. At a table tucked away in the corner, four individuals sat, their expressions a mix of seriousness and carefully cultivated nonchalance.
Sebastian and Veronica, the affluent parents of Nicole, sat across from Georgina and Orlando, a well-connected couple with a son, Zack, who was the object of their discussion.
"The merger between our companies would be a natural progression, don't you think?" Georgina said, her voice dripping with calculated charm. "Combining our resources and influence would only strengthen our position in the market."
Sebastian nodded, his fingers tracing the rim of his wine glass. "Naturally, we agree. And the idea of a union between our children has its merits as well." He glanced at Veronica, who sat quietly, her expression unreadable.
Orlando leaned forward, his gaze sharp. "Exactly. A marriage between Nicole and Zack would not only solidify our business ties, but also ensure the continuation of our families' generational wealth and influence."
Veronica finally spoke, her tone measured. "It's a proposition worth considering, certainly. Though, of course, we would need to discuss the details further. Matters of the heart can be... complicated."
The four adults exchanged weighted looks, the unspoken understanding hanging thick in the air. This was not simply a matter of two young people finding love; it was a carefully orchestrated plan, a chess game of familial alliances and financial gain.
Nicole, blissfully unaware of the machinations unfolding around her, was conspicuously absent from the table. Only Zack, her potential future husband, sat silently, his expression neutral as his parents and the Livingstones discussed the future they had envisioned for him and Nicole.
The conversation continued, the four adults weighing the pros and cons, the potential risks and rewards, all while the weight of their decisions hung heavy in the air. A future that had been predetermined, a narrative they sought to craft, one that would shape the lives of those who were not even present.
Veronica's brow furrowed slightly as she considered the implications of their children's young age. "You raise a fair point," she conceded. "Nicole and Zack are still only 17, after all. It would be prudent to allow them time to become acquainted before any formal arrangement is made."
Georgina nodded in agreement, a calculated smile playing on her lips. "Precisely. The stronger the foundation, the more secure the union will be. Why don't we arrange for Zack and Nicole to spend some time together, get to know one another? That way, when the time comes for them to marry, the transition will be a smooth one."
At this, Georgina turned to Zack, who had been quietly observing the discussion. "Zack, dear, what are your thoughts on the prospect of Nicole as your future wife?" Her gaze was expectant, a hint of steel beneath the velvet tones.
Veronica's eyes narrowed slightly as she studied Zack's reaction. "You know, Zack, I don't believe you've actually had the pleasure of meeting Nicole in person yet, have you?"
Zack's cheeks colored slightly as he shook his head. "No, I'm afraid I haven't," he admitted, a self-conscious chuckle escaping his lips.
Veronica nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Well then, I think it's high time we changed that, don't you?" She reached into her handbag and showed him a photo of Nicole from her phone.
As Zack's gaze settled on the image, his breath caught in his throat. There, captured in stunning detail, was a young woman of breathtaking beauty - Nicole, his potential future wife.
