chapter eighteen ━ exes and endangered animals
( season two, episode five )

❝Look at her! She's like a real-life
Cinderella.❞

𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐀 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐀 𝐋𝐎𝐓 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 the different events in her parents' lives that brought them together and how very easily they could have never crossed paths.

What if Carlos hadn't hurt his knee and transferred schools? What if Caroline hadn't been studying in that coffee shop when Carlos needed a pick-me-up? What if Caroline hadn't gotten her heart broken by her two previous boyfriends and was single when Carlos introduced himself to her?

What if?

She knew that it was not a healthy concept to constantly think about the different ways her parents might never have met, but she always had those thoughts. Especially when her mother's past always found a way of intertwining itself with her life.

"Alright, come on, Milton, you got this!" Jerry exclaimed, shaking Veronica out of her thoughts and she looked over at her redheaded friend.

Kim nodded. "Yeah, hang in there, Milton, you're about to shatter your old record."

Veronica tilted her head when Eddie pushed Milton on the skateboard very, very slowly. "What a rush!" he said once he was off the board. "The wind in my hair, the adrenaline pumping."

Randy scoffed. "Dude, your skating's a joke."

"The sweet air I caught when I ran over that pebble was no joke!" Milton countered and Eddie frowned.

"That 'pebble' was my pinky toe."

Veronica clicked her tongue. "I'm still the only one who broke a bone skateboarding, so... there's that. And no, I am not doing it again."

"Alright, Jack," Jerry said as Milton sat down beside Veronica. "Let's see what you can do."

He shrugged. "Yeah, I've got some moves I've been working on," he told his friends and the group that was growing in the courtyard.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Immediate groans were coming from around Veronica and she glanced back at Officer Joan. "What do you think you're doing? I'll take this."

Jack sighed. "Come on, Joan—"

"I'm sorry, but I've got a job to do," she interrupted, shaking her head. Suddenly, she tore off her police uniform and underneath, was wearing a multicolored... skating outfit. "And it's to teach you punks how to shred. Huh? Check it."

"What is she wearing?" Veronica whispered to her friend group and they all shrugged, looking as horrified as her.

"This skate rat can grind it like a coffee bean." The brunette raised her eyebrows at the woman; what was she talking about? "And... whoo!" Veronica leaned forward when she saw the security guard jump onto a nearby table and spin in the center. She landed on a chair and slid down to the concrete below her, taking the skateboard in her hand.
