"𝐇𝐈, 𝐏𝐀𝐏𝐀!"

Veronica smiled down at her phone before frowning. All she could see was a black screen with rustling filling her eardrums. She raised her eyebrows.

"Papa?" she repeated, leaning towards her phone screen and quietly sighed. "Not again... Papa, you called me."

"Ronnie?" She nodded when she heard her grandfather's voice and suddenly, his smiling face appeared on the screen. "Oh, I'm sorry, sweetheart, I didn't realize I had called you. How are you, my dear?"

Veronica chuckled. "I'm okay," she replied in amusement, glancing briefly at Jack as he sat down beside her.

"Where's your friend, Kim?" he asked her making her raise her eyebrows. "She always wants to listen to my stories and I have some new ones for her."

"She's out of town visiting her aunt," she said, shaking her head. "But I'll be sure to video chat you when she gets home, okay?"

Her grandfather nodded. "I can accept that. And who's the boy whose arm is dangling over your shoulder?" Veronica bit her cheeks, clicking her tongue. "Ronnie..."

"This is Jack," she said, tilting the phone towards him and the boy smiled awkwardly. "He's—um... We've gone on a few dates." Her grandfather raised his eyebrows making her eyes widen. "Please don't tell Dad if you manage to get through to him," she added quickly. "I don't want to give him a heart attack while he's halfway across the world. And Uncle Rudy doesn't know either."

Her grandfather hummed. "Ah, a secret teenage romance," he reiterated, chuckling when he saw Veronica's cheeks turn red. "Your secret is safe with me, sweetheart. Now, if you could just hang up the video call because your aunt is calling me and I don't know what I'm doing."

She smiled lightly. "Will do. I love you, Papa."

"I love you, too. Okay, hang up now."

Jack looked at Veronica once her screen had gone dark. "Your grandpa?" he guessed sarcastically and she nodded, putting away her phone.

"My dad's dad," she confirmed with a fond smile. "I talk to him whenever he butt dials me, which is about every other day. I think Kim is his favorite person. He lives in Texas. We would visit whenever we could, but it's been a while..."

"He seems..."

"He has way too much energy," Veronica finished, nodding to herself. "He's always had too much energy. He still line dances every Friday night. It's actually kind of funny to watch."

"So you can line dance?"

She shook her head. "I have two left feet when it comes to dancing," she replied, moving to start stretching her splits. "I inherited my mother's dancing abilities. Which was none. She was good at everything except dancing."
