❝ oh, my gosh... i'm classmates with my uncle! no! ❞
𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐀 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐉𝐎 with a stack of mail in her arms and a bright smile on her face. "Guys!" she exclaimed making her uncle and the three boys inside look at her. "Look at what Lily made me!" She held out her wrist. "It's a colorful bracelet!"
Jack tilted his head. "It's—"
"Don't worry, she made you one, too," she interrupted, holding out the blue bracelet the little girl and he slipped it onto his wrist. She smiled softly at him before looking at her friends. "You know, Jerry, you almost getting suspended might have been the best thing to happen to me. Here." She held out three more bracelets. "One for all of you. And if you know anyone else who needs a bracelet, I have a bag full of them. We were doing crafts all morning."
She paused and looked around the room. "What did I miss?" she asked, noticing the awkward tension in the air. "Was it the 'soaring crow' kata?"
"So you watched the video?" Milton asked her while she began sorting through the envelopes in her hands and she looked up slowly.
"I live with him," she replied, nodding at her uncle. "Of course I watched the video."
Jack sighed and walked over to their sensei. "Look, Rudy, we're sorry but we're really busy at school."
"'We're really busy with school,'" Rudy mocked him and Veronica raised her eyebrows. "You want to feel pressure? Wait till you're my age. Trust me, no one gets an award for being an adult." He took the envelopes from his niece and she crossed her arms as he ripped open one of them. "I don't believe it, I'm getting an award for being an adult!"
She furrowed her brows. "Huh?"
"Seaford High is inducting me into its hall of fame," he replied, still reading the letter and Veronica glanced at her friends in confusion.
"Why?" they all asked in unison.
Rudy held up the letter in front of Jack and Veronica's faces. "Starting to lose it," he said, his voice shaking dramatically. "Someone please read this. Read it with some pizzazz."
"I'm not doing it," Veronica told Jack, shaking her head and handing it to him.
He rolled his eyes. "'We are pleased to formally acknowledge your contribution to the youth of Seaford through your leadership and commitment to physical fitness.'"
"In your face, mother!" Rudy exclaimed, looking up at the ceiling.
Veronica frowned. "For the millionth time, Nana's not dead!"
"And they're giving you a black-tie pork chop dinner!" Jack added, reading from the card and Rudy stared back at him.
"Black tie?" he repeated and Veronica tilted her head at him. "Pork chops? It's all happening so fast."
